Icon! Suspicion! Yay!
Another happy Friday night viewing. I had a few issues with both eps, but on the whole, found both very enjoyable. And, er, Sheppard/McKay! I so feel the love. Feet and all.

You know, in the Gateworld spoilers I read something about Daniel speaking Japanese in this ep. Clearly they decided to back off that whole theme. Anyway, I did like several aspects of this ep. The flashback storytelling style is one of them. Sometimes that can fall really flat, but this time it made a somewhat routine story interesting to watch. The story this time was more about the people of the planet they are visiting (I forget the name) than about SG1, but it worked for me. I got caught up in their story, and thought there was some pretty strong acting by the guest stars, particularly Jared. I found myself really liking him. The 'religious zealot' storyline was effective, I thought, and Teal'c! Teal'c got to be knowledgeable and forceful and to speak his mind. With General O'Niell encouraging him.
Speaking of General O'Neill, he just wanted his Daniel back, didn't he? I could feel his frustration and helplessness. And the whole 'when things get squirrelly' bit was sweet. Daniel, on the other hand, really didn't get a whole lot to do in this ep. There was some nice hurt/comfort going on, but not with Jack, damn it. He certainly got to look pretty, and that leather jacket was a quite nice addition. He was earnest, he was concerned and all that, but there was no huge dilemma for him to deal with. I did like his scenes with Jared. Did I mention that I liked Jared? I really did.
I also dug the look of this episode, I mean, yeah, WWII and all that, but the cold war stuff down in the bunker was kind of creepy I thought. I used to have nightmares about nuclear war when I was a kid, so that kind of brought it all back to me.
Suspicion
Okay. So now I'm not convinced that either woman is in charge. Sheesh. That really bugged me. Weir let that Lieutenant(?) walk all over her in those interviews, and while I'd like to think it was her idea of a good cop/bad cop strategy, I know it wasn't. She came off looking ineffective and uncertain, and I hated that. I do like the character, but they really need to work on her leadership style. Same with Teyla. She's the leader of her people? What? Give me some evidence of that. Because I see none. None of the people from Earth treat her that way, and neither do her own people. She's a character without a purpose.
The storyline was interesting enough. I liked the bit about the necklace. I suspected it would turn out to be some sort of technological type of thing, where no one would actually be a spy. I thought it was rather premature of Weir to jump to that conclusion so quickly, considering that there's all sorts of technology there that they don't understand. And also, what would the spy have to gain by it? But okay, it was a plot device, and it made for a decent episode. I have to say I'm glad Teyla's people are out of the city, and out on the planet. They're dull.
Now, for the shallow stuff. McKay! McKay! Poor baby, he gets shot right in the face. Sheppard has to run to his side and fuss over him. Then linger by his bed in the infirmary and look concerned, then give him the eyebrow when Wier calls him away. See, they have a sekrit code already. Not only that, we get to see that McKay has all sorts of fuzzy curly chest hair peeking out from his shirt. Plus, that whole bit about McKay being nervous? Adorable. Sheppard knows just how to handle him. There's so much potential there. I've also decided that Sheppard is drop-dead sexy when he's taunting a caged Wraith. I'm liking the character, liking him a lot. He's making me look a turkey sandwiches in a whole new light.
Must re-watch episode.
