Stargate Atlantis Recs
Feb. 3rd, 2005 12:20 pmIt seems like a lot of new folks are discovering Stargate Atlantis and in particular, the oh-so slashy love between Sheppard/McKay. Which is especially nice since early on there were folks who were convinced that there was nothing at all slashy about the show. And some even wondered where we were getting all our porny ideas from. ::blinks:: Granted, the slashiest of the eps are just starting to show in the US, so I suppose it's understandable.
I think it's a good time to rec some of my favorite Sheppard/McKay stories, ones that have been around for a while, and shouldn't be overlooked. And also, maybe some stories that are pretty new and shouldn't be overlooked, either. I'm sure I've missed some must-reads, because I'm a big ole dorkbrain. Please let me know if I have. I will add them to the list.
Invulnerable, by
kylielee1000. The hummus argument? Cracks me up every time. And, uh, the hot sex is good, too. If Kylie doesn't write more Sheppard/McKay soon I'm going to start whining. I'm just sayin'.
Perception, by
gigitrek. Cranky, reluctant Rodney, smirky John and Gigi's wonderful sense of humor. What more could a grrrl ask for? (Other than for Gigi to write more Atlantis fic).
Battle Hymn of the Republic by
munchkinott. John, Rodney, and some tall grass. I laughed like a loon, and then promptly melted.
The Sixth Day, by
mmmchelle. "It all started with Rodney's nipples." How can you resist a fic that begins with that line? I love the way she writes them, so warm, there's a lovely connection between them, and the dialog, even when they're discussing something awkward, always rings true.
Verb, Transitive, by
kageygirl. Oooh, Kagey gets grammatical. Kinky. Seriously, though, this is a truly lovely fic, with fabulous characterization. She gets them just right.
Balcony Sessions, by
maching_monkey. Okay, yes, this series isn't finished yet, ::glares:: but it's so wonderful, with all the angst and the longing and woo, action and adventure! Good, juicy stuff. Now Leah, go and finish it, okay?
Fucking Right, by
amireal. A post-Sanctuary fic. Funny, very funny, and wicked sexy. And I just love what's going on inside of Rodney's head.
Scar Tissue, by
coreopsis. This wonderful fic is a sequel to "Hello Timebomb", which should also be read. "I wanted to and I thought you wanted to and we were having a moment..." John frowned. "We were having a moment, weren't we?" ::loves:: She just nails these characters. And then they nail each other.
Prisoner of the Hot Gay Sex, by anonymous. Spoilers for "Sanctuary". The title says it all. *g* Incredibly hot, funny, and Rodney, could you be any cuter?
Referencing Gilbert Ryle, by
brighidestone. A beautiful, poignant fic about John, Rodney and love. And aliens.
Complicated, by
danvers. Spoilers for "Sanctuary". "Oh look, it's Atlantis's favorite metrosexual." I laughed, I sighed, I 'awww'ed. And was in awe, of the marvelous dialog and humor and storytelling and yeah, all the good stuff.
Okay, now tell me which ones I missed. *g*

And yes, I did enjoy that fic, although I do agree with 'zoot on some of the characterization issues. But it had some truly wonderful moments.
