Full Alert

Jack! Jack! The ep opens with Jack! In a black shirt! And sunglasses! With beer, and a gun!!

Shallow? Who, me?

Why does Jack take his gun to the grocery store?

I don't care, really. I think it's so fangirls like me can go all wibbly.

I enjoyed this ep--not one of their finest, but it was enjoyable.I like the idea of the goa'uld trying to get Earth to destroy itself. I had managed to somehow stay unspoiled for the whole 'Kinsey gets goa'ulded' bit, too. so that was a big surprise (duh, I couldn't even figure out what was in the case the bad guys brought out). I actually felt a little guilty, because despite of everything I kind of liked Kinsey. He's a great bad guy. Even though slimy and evil and has all that 'for god and country' stuff going on. His scenes with Jack are always fabulous. (Jack pulling out the cell phone? Marvelous!). I also enjoyed the bit of Jack/Daniel interaction--Daniel's "I have to go pick up my dry cleaning." LOL. Yes, cutie, you're going to Russia. And you will pick up that dry cleaning because you're going there in your pretty little suit. Because then, halfway through your trip, you can take the jack off and unbutton your shirt and loosen your tie and look even hotter. While speaking Russian.

The ep was all about the eye candy, wasn't it?

I do wonder, though, does the SGC have any other teams? Or other specialists? No operatives in Russia that could have helped out with this? Does SG1 have to fix everything themselves?

I am curious to find out who these goa'uld were, or who they were working for. And since we didn't see Kinsey on the ship when it blew up, can I assume he's still alive? I hope so. A goa'ulded Kinsey is far too much fun to kill off so quickly. I wonder what the symbiote thinks of his mind--"wow, he's one of us already!".

Fun stuff. Fun, pretty stuff.

Sanctuary

First of all, if folks haven't been reading danvers' episode reviews, you should. They're hilarious.

I think this ep is the weakest of the season, but I have great affection for it. Because, of course, Jealous McKay. There's no other explanation for his over-the-top behavior. I'm thinking they saw how weak the script was, and decided to liven the ep up by pumping up the slash. I'm just sayin'. Because this is one of the slashiest things I've ever seen.

Because of the previews, there really wasn't any doubt that Chaya was going to turn out to be an ancient, I thought. That took away some of the suspense right there. Was anyone surprised by that? I thought (hoped) maybe it was a clever bitof misdirection. But no. I also wasn't impressed by the actress who played the character. Yes, she was lovely and pretty but I didn't catch any spark between her and Sheppard, so his total falling for the alien priestess thing didn't work for me at all. I mean, she looked bored when he kissed her. And passive. I was thinking "knock him flat and ravage him" in that scene, you know? Because Sheppard trying to be romatic and seductive? Is adorably dorky. He didn't pull it off at all.

There are no words for the "Kirk" scene when McKay confronts Sheppard in what seems to be the hallway outside of Chaya's room. McKay at his bitchiest. He's so fabulous. I loved him on the planet, on his "best behavior" (Major, this is as good as it gets) but when he's telling Sheppard to keep it in his pants? ::loves::

I probably would have liked this episode more if it weren't for the last five minutes. Dopey, unconvincing romance aside, it explained a fair bit about the ancients, providing a bit of a shock in that sense, because the characters are figuring out that the ancients weren't all sweetness and light. The scenes on the planet were great fun, McKay snarking, Sheppard glaring, yay! I loved that McKay wasn't giving her a break from the very start. He showed no respect for their religious beliefs, (not the most sensitive man, is he?) but it was keeping in character. And near the end, during the briefing, when McKay accuses her of being who she is to everyone's shock and surprise--that was very well done. McKay seemed surprised that he was right, and genuinely hurt that she had been hiding who she was from everyone. And Sheppard, upset and yet cutely dorky. But the ending, oh lord. First the pretty little fainting, then of course the Wraith are attacking her planet. And Sheppard leaves, (by himself no less!), taking a jumper to go protect and ancient being who has superpowers and needs no protecting at all. Who lied to them. And refuses to help them. WTF? Did the writers just throw up their hands and say "we have no idea how to finish this ep off"? Not to mention Sheppard allowing an alien to access his brain while they 'shared'. (At least that was in canon with SG1's season 5 ep,Ascension (Orlin! So cute.)

So, I think the take-home message from this one is that McKay has a huge crush on Sheppard (it's entirely possible that after a short, torrid affair they've split up, and now Sheppard is trying to reclaim his heterosexuality by jumping all over the first pretty lady he sees), that McKay never hesitates to speak his mind (okay, we already knew that), that Sheppard has a cute, dorky side to his personality, and that Grodin has very nice arms.

And in the opening scene, when McKay is trying to fix the weapons in the jumper, while they're under attack? Did anyone think that his line about not holding back sounded vaguely porny? (I don't have the exact quote anywhere, damn it!)

...and, er, BTW, I did write a silly post-ep fic a while back.
