Yay! New computer!

I am posting this from my brandy new computer. Well, it's new to me. It's actually a used computer, but more than twice as fast as my old one. Woo! I can run GIMP and Windows Media Player at the same time without it keeling over. 'Tis very exciting. It took me the entire weekend to figure out how to network this new one to my old one, in order to transfer files (tons of screencaps and music). It nearly ended in tears, because of various software issues, but then suddenly I had a virtual private network and all was good.

The other problem is that it was sent with broken CDRW drive. ::headdesk:: I've dealt with this company before, and they've always been reliable, so I'm assuming there won't be any issue replacing it.

All in all, it's taken up my entire weekend to load software and configure and buy cables for networking so remind me to never do this again, okay?

In the meanwhile, I finished up a small collection of Ronon icons to share. Because really, he's quite pretty. Free to a good home, please feel free to take and use. Credit is nice, but not necessary.

I'll think I'll cling to your knees and beg you to tell me how to connect my two old PCs to my latest one, in order to get my files transfered (they have no CD drives). I've been postponing this since 1996 ...

Thank you, I was very traumatized by the networking setup. Everything I tried from the "help" menu didn't work for one reason or another. But yes, looking at Ronon was rather soothing. I love his hair. It's fun to work with.

Well, I was working with Window XP and a crippled version of Windows 2000, so that's the only ones I know how to work with. I used a Category 5 crossover cable and connected them directly. I know you can do it with a USB cable, too, but the only one I could find in the store came with a file transfering software package and cost $40, which I was determined not to spend.

*sigh* one PC is still 4.86, the other might already be Windows95, but I doubt they have USB, so I never could figure out HOW to possibly connect them.

ah, lovely icons. and HURRAH for new computers. it's like a whole new world when you suddenly upgrade to a faster computer. I traded in my horribly old laptop for a spanking new desktop (which I shall be paying for long after it becomes obsolete) back in August and I am quite pleased.

I don't so much want a new computer, I just want to jazz up the one I've already got. Not that I would turn DOWN a new one, you understand. I'm hoping for a laptop soon. I've never had a laptop before.

You should keep your two hooked up and use the old one for backups. Unless you have plans for that one already.

It was. We ate good food--homemade chili with apple crisp for desert. The apple crisp was so good. And it was warm from the oven. Mmmmm.

And we played Apples to Apples with shots. One of the guests suggested kissing in place of the shots, but we all just stared at her. Yes, I was thinking, "you are not turning my party into an orgy." I don't necessarily object to group sex, but I had just cleaned the living room. /g/

There was much laughter, discussion of what we would do if we had a dick. Well, the women discussed this. We would all get blowjobs, in case you were wondering. And the phrase "Canadian nipples" came up a lot. Every time it did, I thought of DH.

I just got an email today saying they were sending another drive to me right away. Which is very good of them.

And there's so much stuff I need to burn to CD. It's a little awkward doing it here at work all the time.

I thought about getting a laptop, but they're more expensive, even used. And I'm a little dubious about buying one used, because they're sure to be beat up more than a desktop would be. My system cost $300, and it's a 1.8 Ghz machine. I know I couldn't get that in a laptop version.

I would love to keep the two computers hooked up, but there really isn't any room on my desk. But I'm going to hang onto it.

Oh, thank you! I'm so tickled. I liked those, too, and I especially liked the way #6 came out. It was a tough cap to work with, but I loved the image. I'm obsessive when it comes to picking out the caps to use.

And I love using the sharpness tool to define Ronon's hair. It's really fascinating to look at. *g*

I do love my swirly brushes, though. *g* I'm ashamed to admit I forgot who's brush that was, but I'm pretty sure I downloaded it from www.deviantART.com, because I get all my GIMP brushes from there. ::ponders:: Unless I got it from gimp_users, but I don't think I did.

It's very traumatic not to have all your files in the right place, isn't it? I love my new computer, but it wasn't *my* computer until I loaded my stuff onto it.

And thank you! Ronon is definitely one pretty man. I didn't expect to like him as much as I do--the writers and the actor have done wonderful things with his characterization.
