I'm still not totally thrilled with the quality of the caps, but I did figure out one thing--I can cap in WMP if I start up the file in PowerDVD first (and keep it running), or I can cap in PowerDVD if I start up the file in WMP first. I guess the video acceleration gets hogged by the first program. Cool!

Anyway, I've always been fond of this ep, it was to me the first classic Sheppard/McKay ep, and I remember being filled with squee first time I watched it. Sheppard already is doing the dorky thing (OMG, so cute!) and Rodney "I built an atomic bomb in the sixth grade" McKay is at his snippy, superior best.

John watching Rodney snarf down more than his fair share of the coffee. Exasperated, but yet, the love is already there.

Rodney's dubious "greet the natives" smile.

John putting the natives at ease with his dorkiness.

See previous caption.

I know, I know, like this scene hasn't been capped a million times already. But look at the love! Right there on-screen!!! John so wants to kiss him.

Sunglasses porn. He's workin' it.

I wish the quality of this one was better, because I love the expression and the angle.

So, where's Rodney at the moment? Hmmmm?

John, really, can you be any more blatant?

Love John's expression.

Staring into each other's eyes already. And it's only the 8th ep.

Not to mention picking up on each other's gestures:

Love that mouth. *g*

And the plaintive pointing. Only DH can point plaintively.

Our hero.

Yum. Just....yum.

I love the look of abject terror on Rodney's face. ::dies::

And last but not least, Season 1 Sheppard's Team Action Shot! Mmmmm, thigh holsters.

As always, feel free to take and use, no commenting necessary!

Oh that was a very pleasurable visual trip in the morning! I love your captions, and you're so right only DH can manage to point plaintively. I love this episode. LOL, I was actually watching bits from it yesterday. McKay saying the bit about because every thing's a short cut in Sheppard's world kills me every time. And I love the looks and how close they're sitting when they're in the underground bunker. Now, I want to go watch it all over again. :)

Thanks so much for sharing the caps!

I watched that again this weekend, along with my favorite..The Brotherhood, yes Defiant One rocks, but The Brotherhood just has something extra to it.

Anyway--PLEASE WITH THOSE CAPTIONS..I think that "blatant" said it all. But do you blame him, I mean Rodney bending over, with all that hay around, some private time...he went for it. *smile*

I do believe that John did win those villagers over with his dorkiness..it's his weapon of choice!

And how many times does John invade his personal space in this episode?? He really could be a little less obvious..but then again, nope, please John, continue doing it, I love that!!

That is such an action shot..Shep!legs, those thighstraps...**BIGSIGH**

**sorry for the rambling reply, I think those pictures ate my brain..but it went happy, very very happy!!*smile*

Your caps cover so much of why this will remain in my top three favorite episodes ever even if the show runs for ten years. *g* There is just so much to love. The walking and talking "we're not lost" scene, alone, is just...gah. SQUEEEEEE!

see, that? it robbed me of coherence. *g*

Oh, good memories. My favourite scene has got to be the one in the field where they're bickering about whether they're lost or not. And then when Rodney picks up the reading...

"You don't know what strange means?"

"I know what strange means, Rodney..."

*sigh* Theirloveissobitchy. :)

Oh, you're very welcome! I love the shortcut scene, love it, love it. I had a cap I was going to use, but apparently I forgot to upload it to my photobucket account last night. Duh. The quality of those images weren't very good, none of the outdoors scenes were--I guess they were still getting used to shooting it digitally? But yeah, the adorable bickering, they're just rockin' in this entire episode. *g*

*giggling madly*

I love these! And the episode. That little bit of banter about the sense of humour... and the being lost... so, so good together.

Also, hey, it occurs to me that you might know - there's a shot I've seen (lots of times) of John in his chair in the briefing room, slouching way back and kind of slung across the chair - but I don't know which episode it's from. Any ideas?

I love the exchange in the barn:

"What kind of readings?"

"Palm readings." With the appropriate snarky expression.

Oh, I'm having such an ihatework day, but these? Make Me So Happy!

I love Underground deeply. It's the one I keep coming back to quote from, to try to point out that, in canon, their interaction in dialogue is not just snip and slide. They blend the snark with the co-operation and support, in this fascinating almost-dance. Underground makes it so very clear that they've found their groove with each other, and it's working for them both.

I love that this is the first time they end up doing that thing JF has pointed out in interviews - running off together and blundering into trouble. The pair of them are catalysts to each other, each of them has a curious, adventurous streak and a cautious, risk-averse streak, and at different times one will be the more daring, the other more cautious. They manage to incite each other and get themselves into trouble together! I love that it isn't always John being gung-ho and Rodney being reluctant to find out what's behind the door.

And then there's that, um, thing you can see in those caps. It doesn't have to be a slash thing if people don't want that, but there is no way anyone can deny that there is some kind of harmony between these two - either they are both really, *really* good actors, or they just have some chemistry that works. I just don't think that they would get as close as they do, share the looks that they do, if the script didn't stipulate it (and why would it do that?) - unless they're both truly comfortable with it, choosing to invade each others' space and mimic each others' body language. I'm not trying to say anything RPS-ish here! Just that you know how it is - there are some people you just feel comfortable around, you like their presence or their company. That's what I get when I look at these caps - so thank you, Grrrrrrrrl!

Also? Ohhhh Rodney! God. You are just the hottest, most shaggable man-thing EVER. My fingers go all Wallace and Gromit at the sight of you! That one with the candles.... uh, I'm just going to keep that minimsed and pull it up all afternoon and ogle it when the work gets boring!

First of all, love the icon! Hilarious!

As for slouchy John, do you mean the one in my icon? It's from "Home" (check out stargatecaps.com). He's just being too damn cute in that scene.

JF has says this is one of his favorite eps from Season 1 (along with TDO). And I can see why--they're obviously having great fun together. There's such affection with the snark, and you're right, they each have their moment of being in charge and in control, alternating with blundering and dopey.

I do the screencapping with the volume turned off, so I can focus on what I'm seeing and not the episode itself (because I'd stop capping and just watch the ep if I didn't) and without the dialog you really start watching the body language between them. The little looks, the mimicking of movements--they're so aware of each other.

It's lovely.

And Rodney's eyes in the pick with the candles...they see right into you, don't they? He knows every porny thought you are thinking.*g*

Ooh, thank you! That wasn't exactly the cap I wanted, but the next one looks just right *g*

And yes, I love that scene with the two of them *g* They aren't quite the Disaster Twins that Trip and Malcolm were, but they do pretty well!

You know they are like the Atlantis version of the Wonder Twins, except their powers are Sheppard-adorable dorkiness and McKay-that total snarktastiness!! Love it..damn those two, they really play off each other so well, and when they work as a team, just the best!!

A few of my favorite scenes, of many, is in "Hide and Seek" when they were telling Elizabeth about how they tested the shield, loved both Shep's and Rodney's enthusiasm. And in "Poisoning The Well" in the beginning of the episode when Rodney was asking John when exactly he was going to tell them he woke up the Wraith and they would be there a lot sooner than they thought.

Mother of EEK! I hope not! Unless Rodney's a damn sight more un-shockable than I think he is.

I can see I'm going to need that caption on an icon now... you have no idea how strong the urge is to log out of the work PC for the day and just settle down with Word open and Corel open, and noodle a happy afternoon away!

John, really, can you be any more blatant?

Can you blame him? The way those pants are just stretched across Rodney's ass... And without panty lines.

Plus, he's infatuated. He can't help himself. He knows it's wrong, but Rodney's got those hands and they're always moving, and doing interesting things.

And John just knows that Rodney would be really hot in bed, happy and eager.

And then there's the ass.

Poor John. He's doomed.

Huh, I hadn't thought of it that way. I'd just figured DH was deliberately playing Rodney as in love with John (unrequieted, unfortunately, and quite possibly subconcious, but definitely in love)because it's just so *obvious* on screen, and he's too good an actor for it to be accidental.

This is the great beauty of it all! One minute I'm thinking it's Rodney with the mancrush to end all crushes, and John's Mr Oblivious - like when John throws out the MENSA thing in Brotherhood, and Rodney gets hopelessly distracted and excited. The next minute, it'll be the way that John says something cruel then catches Rodney's eye and gives that tiny, tiny twitch of the lips, or the DAGGERS of jealousy every time Rodney bangs on about Allina's smarts, or the smile in Condemned - "call me romantic"...

It's like they're flipping coins in rehearsal. "Okay, which one of us has the bigger crush this week?"

Date: 2005-11-10 05:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rivier.livejournal.com
I could buy into that - Rodney having a big subconscious pash, definitely. But I think John has one too! There are too many times he moves close, catches Rodney's eye, teases him, admires him... It rminds me far too much of how I used to feel about guys in the office I had a secret thing for. Used to think I was being all cool and insulting and not obvious at all.

The beauty - or tragedy - of these two, for me, is that they do both feel the same way, but they have yet to recognise that the other feels it too. Rodney is more obvious, because he's a great big walking emotion display. But given how circumspect and deliberately distanced John is around most other people, I feel that his beahviour towards Rodney is - for Sheppard - definitely blatant.
