Eeeee! Just watched, after drinking a huge cup of coffee, and now I'm more than wired. That was a tense episode. And not at all what I expected. That in and of itself is enough to delight me. Working with the Wraith was an interesting concept, seeing the Wraith in Atlantis was weird, and everyone was suitably jumpy and nervous and suspicious, wondering exactly what they were up to. But seriously, it wasn't like the Atlantians had much of a choice.

Everyone was marvelous, from Zelenka and Beckett nervously working with the wraith on the retrovirus deployment, to Rodney insisting that the Wraith send them more info, to the Wraith queen (seriously cool), to Michael, and Teyla, especially. I love Teyla's warning to John: they're Wraith.

I had issues with the ending, though--of course, I expected things to go very wrong, having seen the spoiler pics of Rodney and Ronon being cocooned, but the whole "Wraith computer virus" business was a disappointing way to get there. I'm not an IT person, but I would think they would keep all the wraith info on completely separate machines as a routine precaution. Still, I'm willing to do the handwave, because I found this ep to be entirely compelling.

Little moments that I loved:

- Zelenka's sexy muttering near the end when he found something wrong with the computers
- Rodney insisting he had to go on board the Wraith ship. And patting John like that - aw!!
- I liked Elizabeth negotiating with the queen. TH really sold those moments for me
- Carson asking the Wraith's name
- the queen feeding on the newly humanized wraith. Creepy. I like my wraith creepy.
- John's obvious discomfort with the whole idea.
- And, of course, the little John/Rodney "we have a plan" routine:





I love the way they worked it, as if we, as the audience, needed reminding that John and Rodney are ridiculously cute together, no matter what.

Again, the only time it fell apart for me was the end--of course Sheppard's not dead, and of course, the wraith want to grandstand instead of kill Ronon and Rodney outright. But I can't wait for part two, although it's going to be a painfully long wait. I want to know if Michael was aware of this doublecross, and why did the Wraith download info on the Aurora mission? To gain knowledge of how to boost their hyperspace drive? Would that be in the mission logs? And is part two going to take place on Earth? That would be cool.

So, to sum up my reaction: Eeeee!

I'n not hopeful, but I'd still love it so hard if they, uhm... *thingummied* Rodney in the next season like I've been speculating. Clearly, they'll need him to help with the hyperdrive, it's not an impossible way to get him to do it, and it would parallel the Wraith Queen feeding in the infirmary, which was as you say hellacious creepy.

I want to go away and decompress and then sit down and rave like a LOON about this season. SUCH LOVE! And hey, they haven't exactly tamped down on the McShep this year, have they!

By time that scene ended, my jaw dropped. I couldn't believe how fluffy they were. Still picking up each other's mannerisms, how cute is that? John's classic 'hands on hips' pose is now Rodney's, too. Sweet!

I thought about your theory at the end there, and for a moment, I thought it was going to come true, and I almost squealed. Then they went in a different direction, but it's also great because yeah, what you said, there are all sorts of possibilities arising. I didn't think of them forcing Rodney to do the hyperdrive work--it's possible, though.

I have been a little spoiled for the next ep, and I'm intrigued by how it's all going to work out.

I love the sense that the cast is enjoying themselves, too. Not in a way that undercuts the intensity of the episodes, but there's definitely a sense of enthusiasm that comes through, don't you think?

The Aurora mission - if you remember, there was supposed to be information on a Wraith weakness in the databanks. It had been wiped before Rodney got to them, but I'm guessing that that's what the Wraith were checking for...

I've said it before, but I agree with you completely. They still have that "cool! Paychecks!" vibe about them, and it's very refreshing next to the "you want me to say what?" attitude that RDA had the last year or so.

LOL, that's it exactly. They're excited, and they've really gotten into the groove of working together. It also feels like everyone has gotten more connected with their character, and how their characters fit into the grand scheme of things.

Loved this episode so desperately.

I miss the action that was so much a part of the first episode.

I loved that Zelenka had so much to do in this episode (and yeah, why was that Czech muttering so hot?)

I loved Ronon slamming the Wraith against the wall for touching Rodney. (I wasn't thinking oooh, slashy! Really, I wasn't.)

I loved the oh, so gay Rodney/John presentation of the plan.

This episode, plus Inferno, equals a very, very happy Rose.

I forgot about the wraith weakness thing from Aurora! I would absolutely love for that concept to resurface in the next season.

I felt bad for him all along, so my first thought about the doublecross was disappointment that he wasn't being genuine in his alliance. Because he did seem honest when he was talking to Ronon and Teyla, as though he really wanted them to see his point of view. But I hadn't thought of the possibility that he might not know the queen's plan - interesting! And yet another thing we'll have to wait MONTHS to find out! *weeps*

Yes. Totally. I loved the episode, but they did end it the way I demanded they end it (Sheppard doing woobie face on the ship, while the Wraith have his boyfriend). Mind you, Sheppard's gone out there to save his friends and that's worth much glee. I still loved this episode heaps.

I just watched. I loved. The John and Rodney moments were wonderful. The matching postures were perfect, the pat and John's reaction to it, Rodney's "don't get out of your seat" at the beginning.

I seriously enjoyed the rest of the ep as well. The worm was the usual handwave, especially since we see them emphasizing earlier that the info only go on non-networked, firewalled machines. Then they suddenly got stupid.

I think John was okay with the deal until he had to watch the queen kill. Then it was less okay.

TH was terrific in this. She sold me, too. Loved Elizabeth's talk with Carson.

It was fab, wasn't it? I love the opening scene, too. "Don't get up". They were being too damn cute. And there's something about John in the Orion's chair--he looks so uncomfortable, so out of place, especially compared to Caldwell's easy command of the Daedalus. It's a nice touch, really shows the difference in experiences between the two of them.

Yep, it was McSheppy slashiness again... the boys are so cute when they mimic each other... I loved the hips swivel - thrusting their crotches ever so slightly! The opening scene with John in the Orion chair was hot too. Hehe, me thinks John loves the chair and showing off to his boyfriend who got him the big nice ship.

I liked it when Rodney shoved Chuck out of the way, and I could just picture Chuck on his chair rolling into the wall or something. Rodney looked like he was having an orgasm with all that Wraith Info.

And I loved Hermie and Rodney snarking too. They are too cute. Radek and Carson were gorgeous and so nice and sweet.

The part that I do not get is that we are specifically told earlier in the episode that they do.

'Download to a firewalled server separate from our network' I distinctly remember hearing (about the jamming code).

Therefore the next piece of information to be downloaded by the Wraith to Atlantis would by default go to the same machine.

Unless Atlantis gave the Wraith a new address for them to download to, but that does not happen: we see McKay ask for the information and the sending happens immediately so there is no interval of time during which the Wraith could have gotten the details of another networked server to download their hive technology to. The fact that they do so with pause for thought is a big point of the story...

so there is no handwaving possible even with the best will in the world; being a professional (meep!), I can tell you for a fact that one does not upload information on servers willy nilly without their owner's approval. And let's not discuss hacking at this point because I think that would have raised their suspicions right away...

I was suprised how long they waited before they sprung the suprise - I was anticipating it the whole way through, 'cause, well, I guess it'd be pretty pointless otherwise! The computer thing was sort of a cop-out -- I honestly, through all that anticipation, never thought they'd be after what they were in the end. (Though I can be pretty clueless!) I actually thought - OMG, it's like those fics! Where Rodney gets kidnapped 'cause he's show off too much and other folks figure out they can put him to work for themselves!

I am not even getting into "download to a firewalled server separate from our network" thing because, hello, aside from humans putting the information on a disk and walking it over to a non-networked computer, the whole POINT of a non-networked computer is that they can't TRANSFER THINGS TO OR FROM IT.

Assuming that A + B + C are the networked computers, and D is the computer that they are "downloading to", yes, by the method you are describing or various other routes (daisy chaining, anyone) you could connect A+D and still have ABC as a entirely separate network.

HOWEVER, at that point in time you have two separate networks, not one network and a non-networked server to download to.

I get what they were trying to say, but the combination of jargon and inconsistencies is why I declared it technobabble.

Well, actually I meant if the Atlantis network is A+B+C and D is a totally separate server, not physically connected to anything, just download the Wraith stuff to D and never connect D to any other server on your network. Just as Elizabeth requests at the beginning of the episode.

No A+D need to occur at any point. Just do all the work on the downloaded file on D. And the only thing you need for this is for D to have a separate radio receiver from your network's.

Having said that, I do agree with you: the whole thing was a complete technical mess, specifically having Zelenka explain something that does not make sense, because since this setup is what we are apparently supposed to infer, then there is no way the Wraith could have infected them with a virus and stolen information from their network since their file supposedly NEVER got to their networked servers in the first place!

If we take what is being said at face value, the Wraith information was on D all along, cut off from the Atlantis main servers completely.
