I'm home from Toronto Trek! And I miss everyone already. ::sniffs::

I had fun. Big time fun. More fun than I could have possibly imagined. I really had no idea I would enjoy the experience so damn much. First of all, [livejournal.com profile] kylielee1000 is incredibly lovely, fun and gorgeous and so sweet! I love her madly, and want to run away with her and live happily ever after while writing slash and watching slashy subtexty shows together. And I was fascinated by her spiky blonde movie-star hair, which is the complete opposite of mine. I also met Leah and sophias_sake, which was a real treat. Leah is so lively, very funny and outspoken and cute and so much fun to be with. She was a gracious host, too, during our very fun day in Toronto. Sophia is sweet and lovely too, and looks absolutely gorgeous in elf ears. She also promises to write more Archer/Tucker, yay! I'm so happy I got to share a room with the three of them, it was such great girly fun. It only took me a little while to feel like I had known them all my life. It's just so wonderful to meet folks and immediately feel comfortable and at home with them.

The con itself was a blast.

We saw both of Christopher Judge's Q & A sessions. He's as entertaining as everyone says. He really puts on quite a show, very funny, and yet comes across as very real and sincere. He genuinely seems to enjoy the experience. Douglas Arthurs (Heru'ur) joined him during the second session, and they played off of each other beautifully. In response to a question about Teal'c's hair, CJ said that he fought really hard for it, and is a little anxious about the fan reaction. He said that it took some convincing for MGM to go along with it, because they were concerned that the fans wouldn't recognize him if he wasn't bald. Yeah, right. The man just blends into the background. Goes to show that TV execs really are some of the dumbest folks around. He also mentioned that there are some small continuity errors in the season opener, that even within the same scene, his hair varies in length because of the crazy filming schedule. There's one particular scene where he walks through the door with longish hair, and on the other side he has really short hair. He and his hair person got a lot of crap for it.

I went to the Lexx Q & A, too, with Brian Downy (Stanley Tweedle) and Jeffrey Hirshfield (voice of 790, and co-writer of the series), which I enjoyed because I've always had a thing for Stanley. Really. And Brian Downy is just adorable, even cuter as himself than he is as Stanley. And with the same great accent. They were quite funny, more low-key than CJ but told some great stories about filming Lexx and had plenty of wise-ass comments. We also stayed for the Farscape Q & A with hunky Lani Tupu (Crais) and Raelee Hill (Shanu). LT was quiet but answered his questions very sincerely, and Raelee Hill was very sparkly and pretty and energetic. They had just finished filming the new miniseries, if I remember correctly. They didn't give away any spoilers for it, though.

Everything about the con was really fun, the panels, the attendees, the dance--everything. I really liked the fact that it was small (at least I'm assuming that it was small, as compared to some of the others I've heard about). I got a chance to meet and chat a bit with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] artifuss, [livejournal.com profile] bria_ferguson, and [livejournal.com profile] slb44, so nice to have faces to go with the names now!

I think one of the best things about it all was that being around so many other fans was such a freeing experience, a great chance to revel openly in the geeky joy of being a fan and a slash writer. It was the first time I had a chance to actually talk about slash with people who understand what it's all about, rather than just writing e-mails and LJ entries about it. I can't wait for next year's con!

I'm glad you had such a good time! :D If you can swing it, you should come to Escapade, next February. It's all slash, all the time. Lots of fun. Next year'll be my...*counts*...sixth time at the con, and the last couple of years, we've had a big Stargate gathering, too.

Do think about it (and if you decide that you want to, act fast when they open up for registration since it usually sells out). Next year will be my waht? Tenth year? It remains tons of fun and there is a large SG contingent, and heck, maybe we can lure even more in.

I often think about that in my day-to-day life, how sad it is that no one would understand my interest in slash, my devotion in this way to particular TV shows, wouldn't care, wouldn't be interested... I dunno, maybe someone I know is a closet fanficcer, just like me, but...

Cons are a great outlet for releasing that desire to talk slash. Must be a wonderfully liberating feeling. Glad you had such a great time. :-)

I sometimes think that, too. But how would you ever know? Someone would have to come out first.

I was thinking about that recently. I think you need to maybe use the word "slash" in a sentence, but mumble most of the sentence except for that word, and see if any women turn their heads suddenly or look guilty or distracted.

Or maybe we need sekrit hand signals.

It's bad enough the stigma attached to being obsessed with a TV show, but then to add in the Slash element as well... The Grrrl is right - perhaps we do need sekrit hand shakes. ; )

I definitely recommend it! It's so great to be around people who really get it.

Secret hand signals, I love it. I wonder...

ponders what a universally recognized hand signal for slash might look like

I too would love to find someone nearby to talk to who understands the obsession.

I'm glad you had such a fabulous time, Grrrl. Looking forward to seeing some piccies. Leah is the only person you mentioned that I've actually met and I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment.

*big pouty lip* I wanna go to a convention too! Was going to go to Shore Leave but now hubby is going to be away. Boo!

You must come to TT next year, then. I demand it. (I can be such a bossygrrrl, can't I?) We will squee and giggle and drink lots of coffee, then play with Kylie's fabulous hair. It's all good.

Second Cup!

It's a hobby of mine to get English relatives hooked on the white hot chocolate, and then send them back. Har har.

I'm glad you had so much fun. Did Christopher Judge remark as to why, exactly, Teal'c wanted hair all of a sudden? And am I the only one who thinks Daniel should shave his head as a trade-off?

Pictures, by chance? (Yes, I am insatiable.)

Icon! Icon! Who the heck's butts are in your lovely icon?? I love it.

Oh, yes. Second Cup--I didn't have the white hot chocolate but I did love the coffee, the plain old normal brewed coffee. I'm a total coffee fuss-pot, too. I brought some dark roast home with me, and I'm very tempted to make a pot right now.

As for CJ's hair, he didn't say why at the con, but I've read elsewhere that he said it got really painful as the season went on to shave it. I guess his scalp got very irritated. I'll bet it has something to do with having kinky curly hair, it doesn't stick up enough to shave properly or something. I've known guys with similar hair who have problems shaving their beards for that reason.

Yes, Daniel should shave as a trade-off, yes indeed--oh, you mean the hair on his head? I think Jack had something else in mind.

I have no pictures, unfortunately, but Leah and Sophia do. And Leah's friends had digital cameras, so hopefully those will be posted soon.

It was so much fun. Did I mention the fun?

Oh, the feeling is mutual. I love grrrl's curly long dark hair, and she let me play with it a little bit! And we slow-danced together. And hung out. And ate a lot. I miss her terribly already.

Much fun was had, and I did enjoy meeting some other LJ-ites. I just love fandom, because everyone is so damn cool, and how would I have met such great people otherwise?
