thegrrrl2002: (John and Rodney from Lifeline)
[personal profile] thegrrrl2002

Eeeee! I loved it. Seriously loved it. I was on the edge of my seat by the end (god that last commercial break was an interminable). And it never once occurred to me that Carter's vision might not happen right away. In my defense, I do admit that I watch this show on sheer emotion, and critical thinking doesn't really come in to it. I'm way too distracted by the prettiness. And this time, by John reassuring Rodney in his sexy low John voice that it wasn't all Rodney's fault for having created the override for the virus. I mean, come on, how am I supposed to be able to think after that? It was ridiculously hot.

My only very minor quibble was that there was a bit too much Woolsey. He was cluttering up the ep. But it was worth it at the end, where he tried to override Carter's command. It was a nice moment for Carter, and for John, who listened to her rather than Woolsey. (BTW, how cute was John getting worked up over Woolsey and the IOA?)

To my surprise, I'm really enjoying Carter on the show, and in this ep in particular. I like that we see her uncertainty, that she's still feeling her way around. I'm finding her far more human and likable here than I ever have on SG1. Not that she didn't have her moments on SG1, but overall, the character really didn't work for me. But here, she really does. I'm very pleased.

I also really like this wraith. He has a sense of humor! One that is obviously only funny to other wraith! He's rather unflappable, too. I love the way Christopher Heyerdahl is playing him. He makes a much better wraith than Athosian.

And, in conclusion, Rodney was looking mighty fine this evening. Oh yes.

I feel like all of fandom is saying this :) I am pleasantly surprised that they did not attempt to shoe-horn her but actually gave her character growth and change. She's still a science-geek. But that isn't her job *here* and they're doing a fantastic job of showing the difference. This whole seasons is more emotionally nuanced than many previously, so for the first time I am actually liking Carter, who I have called Science!barbie many a time while watching SG1.

I loved the nod to her science background tonight, when she was explaining multiple paths to a single future, and that 9 out of 10 could happen the same way, and it was informed by the same thinking as Rodney's but expressed in her own manner. It was great.

And yes - it's the change and growth as a character that's marking *all* of them this season, and I think that's why they're all looking so great.

P.S. I don't miss Elizabeth at all. There I said it. Anyone else?

Yes! They haven't lost anything (although, frankly, I was waiting for a reference to the Colin ep where he has a brain tumor that's giving him visions, although that may've been it, actually) and the gains work for the character very nicely, as well as the show.

I... agree. I don't want to, but yeah, I agree. Personally, as much as I like Torri and like her Elizabeth, I like the original Elizabeth better -- there was always something too shrill and fragile about Torri's version, which wasn't a bad thing, but it was sometimes pretty damned awkward, and I think it encouraged the writers to basically write her out. They didn't know how to handle that kind of character, that kind of portrayal -- whereas now they get a character they've been writing for ten years, plus the three awkward years of trying to handle Elizabeth/Torri.

If you think about it, other than the few character scenes, Sam doesn't say things that much different from Elizabeth. But they sound a whole lot better coming from her, don't they?

Also, I ramble on in another post (dear god, the rambling tonight!) about John's relationship with women and then military vs not-military and that is where a lot of the oddness I think came from. Sam's military. John trusts her in a way I think he never trusted Elizabeth.

But, um, yes. Belated simple answer: me, too.

Yes. I was thinking the same thing. I don't miss her, which makes me feel kind of bad because I liked her. But she just didn't seem to fit.

It always seemed like they were forcing Elizabeth into episodes where she didn't fit, and that bothered me. So, no, I don't miss her.

Yes, yes, exactly! I am amazed at how well she's fitting in. And by the way we get to see her figure out how to do her new job. I like how she depends so much on John and Rodney and the people around her. I think the difference is that she's not the Mary Sue coming up with all the answers, but instead relying on others and using that information. AT is doing a lovely job with the role.

I'm really stunned by my enjoyment of the Carter/Sheppard scenes. I love how they are depending on each other.

However, I am not stunned by the feeling in my pants when John and Rodney were comforting each other. And how extremely hot John looked. In. Every. Single. Frame. Damn.

I LOVED IT I LOVED IT I LOVED IT.

And now I'm writing John dragging Rodney off to a deserted room to try and talk him out of the belly-deep sickness he knows he's gotta be feeling after hearing about those other worlds . . .

John was being so sweet and comforting, wasn't he? And um...hot.

I liked Carter! I feel like dancing! It's the first episode where I can say that - it was the scene in the infirmary with the seer that tipped me over into outright "I like her here". I don't *want* to dislike Sam, it's just that she's seemed very out of place (plus, I adored Elizabeth and still miss her *sniff*).

And yes, too much Woolsey. He needs to learn how to really be an observer.

Seasonal arc, anyone? That possibility also makes me happy.

Overall, a terrific episode.

There were parts all fitting together in this ep, yay! Bit and pieces from other eps, yay! Like it was all planned out and plotted!

*g*

I'm so glad you liked Carter here, too. Especially if you still miss Elizabeth. I know how hard that can be. I was all set to try and maybe tolerate Carter this season - I had no idea I'd enjoy her role this much.

I'm finding her far more human and likable here than I ever have on SG1.

ME TOO. I never really connected with her character on SG-1, but I've always liked her with the Atlantis people, and I am liking her a lot in this season. Yay dorky Wraith jokes! Yay show!

(also, yes, John reassuring Rodney was great. My first thought when they saw that planet was "oh, Rodney.")

Her character turned into a convenient plot device on SG1, so it's nice to see her being a real person here, isn't it?

And poor Rodney, he's going to need lots of comforting, isn't he?

I've always been an emotional watcher too. I tend to be stunned when people point out things that were really wrong with an ep! I'm such a fangirl. ::hangs head:: /g/ Having said that, I've got to say that I loved this ep! Replicators killing off humans! Oh, the angst! How could poor Rodney not feel that? He'll definitely need some comfort. *nods*

I agree about Woolsey. He's just damned annoying. Too bad he didn't shake the wraith's hand.

I'm finding myself really enjoying Sam, much to my surprise. I had horrible visions of Super!Sam moving to Atlantis, but she's turned into a *leader* instead of a one girl team. Who would have thought?

Date: 2007-11-17 05:23 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com
That's it exactly! She's not coming up with all the answers. She's not super Sam. Thank god. And I really do enjoy her scenes with Sheppard.

I loved the turn of events with the replicators. I guess I just love when the folks in Atlantis have to work with the wraith. It makes everyone so nervous. (Me too, actually).

From: [identity profile] feather-autant.livejournal.com
I'm always nervous when they're working with the wraith. I waffle horribly. 'Well, he seems honest this time. But then again, he might have an agenda. But our guys have figured out all the angles-- hopefully. But then again, this one seems really trustworthy, well, except for the whole needing humans for food thing.' *g*

Hee! Yes, that's it exactly. He does seem sincere, and they have a common enemy, and it could all work, but hey, what if he gets hungry?

Eeee!

I said pretty much the same things, who knew Wraith could be so freakin' funny!!!

John was all shades of HOTNESS in this.

And they really wrote Sam into this show very very well, honestly, I think she's a great addition to the show, she's not coming to the rescue, she's not fixing things..meaning Rodney can't do it..she's sort of like, just in charge, but has all their backs!

Have I mentioned that reassuring talk that John had with Rodney nearly made me combust..they are so so so married.

Wraith humor totally rocks. Especially when they laugh at their own jokes. *g*

And I'm going to dl the ep right now so I can listen to that sweet little talk again because it honestly made me squeal with joy. Aw!! John is such a good guy. He looooves his Rodney.

I agree! I really enjoyed the episode, and liked how although the visions came true, the actual events didn't automatically fit the interpretations that came to them immediately.

I so agree with everything. I'm surprised how much I'm liking Carter here as well. I was all ready to hate her, and yet...

John/Rodney!!! That was like a step away from John jumping him and having feel!better sex. McShep is canon for me now. *grins*

I literally had to bite my pillow and choke back laughter over 'Wraith humor.' And his little laugh? There were tears, tears! I tell you!

*licks McKay* Um, yeah.....

I so can't wait two weeks.

Hee! I love your icon.

I didn't expect to like Carter this much at all. I was kind of concerned about her presence. But she fits in so well, like she belongs there. I've never been so glad to be wrong. *g*

And yeah, feel!better sex, you just know that was in their near future. I'll bet the Seer knew.

I'm also very surprised by how much I'm liking Carter. I never cared for her much, and I never liked her interactions with Rodney. They've always brought out the worst in each other, and I was worried that she would belittle him and his contributions. So far that hasn't happened, and she seems to be slipping into the crew very quietly. I feel like letting out a big sigh of relief.

Also, John was lit so beautifully in every scene. Thank you, thank you lighting people! :)

I came into the season all prepared to *like* Sam, and *still* I'm surprised just how much I'm liking her. I think it's because like AT is saying, she's playing a very different Sam. While I did warm up and like her in SG1, it took me a long time, and I think the reason for that is that the writers stuck her with ALL the exposition, leaving Daniel the "but, what about the CONSEQUENCES! WE MUST HAVE A CONSCIENCE!". With Sam telling what needed to be done and how, there was no room for "and after we've blown up the universe, I'm going to feel sad".

I love the scenes between Sam and Shep, they *really* work, and I loved Rodney, who's just *flails*. And Teyla, being all secure and cool. And and and...I think Alan Whatshisname may be my new favorite writer. I love Martin Gero, but he doesn't really utilize all the characters the same way.

From: [identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com
She is playing Sam very differently. She's so much more human and real, not just a plot device. It all makes me so very happy, because AT seems really sweet and nice and silly.

I loved Teyla's expression when the Seer told her her people were still alive. I just wanted to hug her. She's marvelous.

And Martin Gero has to really wow me with his next eppie to retain the status of My Most Favorite Writer. ::nods::

Yup to everything you said.

Except to add that John was looking really hot. I'm really enjoying his relationship with Carter. They get along well together, and I love the way he talks with her.

Also, the way Carter called Rodney on his claim he definitely wouldn't need the wraith's help to develop the virus. I love when he has to admit that he's human.
