thegrrrl2002: (Rodney is YUMMY)

My Thoughts on the Just-Announced S5 Casting Spoiler

Woolsey, huh? Not my first choice for leader of Atlantis. I was personally hoping for Caldwell, because I love MP's low growly voice. And shoulders.(Why yes, I AM shallow.) Still, I like the idea of Woolsey. RP is a fabulous actor. I like the potential for conflict, especially with Sheppard. I've been enjoying Carter in the role (much to my surprise) but she and John were in agreement most of the time and that can be kind of dull. I hope having Woolsey in command will give us some good Conflicted!John moments. Or Pissy!John. And indignant!Rodney. Along with NotPleased!Ronon. And maybe even some Scowly!Teyla. Good times ahead!

I am sad that there will be one less woman on the show though. There has been mention of a possible new female reoccurring character--military, I think. But it sounds like she'll be young and inexperienced. Meh. Not impressed so far, but I'll keep an open mind.

So, in conclusion, Rodney is yummy. (see icon).

I think it'll be a great chance for him to learn how not B&W Pegasus is. Should be interesting.

I think Woolsey a.)tries to do the right thing b.) is capable of learning c.) and steps up when he has to. He is frequently terrified but he still keeps coming back.

He's always been the bridge between the talk-talk world of politics and the "doing" world of the SGC and Atlantis, and depending on the script, there have been attempts to balance that.

I think if you put him at the helm, he will find his equilibrium.

I think Woolsey is genius casting. I wanted Atlantis to return to civilian control (yay!) and Woolsey allows for some GREAT potential head-butting. Putting him in command will allow some character exploration and hopefully bring a strength that he hasn't had before. I was so happy it wasn't Caldwell. Not that I don't like him, because I DO, but I didn't want it to be a military mission where the leader was making everyone carry the strict military line. A threat to John's command would make me sad :(

I figured there was no way to avoid this spoiler, so I clicked. I pretty much agree completely with you. Shocking, I know. /g/

I'm willing to give Woolsey a try. RP is a good actor and the writing has been good enough this season that I can imagine them doing something interesting with him. Plus, running Atlantis will be a bigger stretch for him than it was for Sam, which could be interesting.

My lunch with the lawyer in the big story lasted 6 hours. And I came home to a boy with a 104 degree fever. /sigh/

Hah!

I definitely think it will be an interesting situation!

[identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that would be fun. I love the idea of Rodney and Woosey bonding. They're both sort of tightly wound individuals. I think it would work.

[identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I think he'd have some growing to do, but his character has shown an ability to do that in SG1, so I think he definitely has potential. I think TPTB can pull it off.

[identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! That's such an adorable icon! I love it.

I definitely want to see some sparks flying with Woolsey around! John getting all worked up, oh yes, that's definitely of the good. *g*

And yeah, I hear you on Jill Wagner. Small doses are fun, but not too much.

[identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, what you said! *g*

he's not an expert in science nor in military matters which means, Rodney's and John's roles are going to be strengthened by that.

True! I can see him being very much an administrator, and relying a lot on the people around him. As for the reports, yeah, he's going to learn to do some creative writing, isn't he? That should be interesting. I could imagine his priorities shifting and his loyalties changing with this experience.

It should be pretty darn interesting!

[identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Very much so. I'm thinking it's going to be a fun season. *g*

[identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think so. I'm interested in seeing if his world view changes after being in charge of such a crazy place for a while. I think he'll understand a lot more once he experiences being there for a while.

[identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I love the idea of head-butting. I think they backed off of that too much with Elizabeth, because she was just too darn likable. But with someone who has a history of being a bit of a jerk sometimes, there won't be any hesitation for John to get into it with him. Hopefully. And that wouldn't have happened with Caldwell, probably, because he and John would pretty much agree on things.

[identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
I was wondering if you'd click. *g* It's hard to avoid major casting spoilers though, especially when there's a press release out there.

I think Woolsey is going to be rather fun. And if it leads to opportunity for John to get all snarky, well, I'm good with that. *g*

And the poor boy is still sick! That's terrible. I hope he feels better soon!

[identity profile] tabby333.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, the character from SG1 has potential. I liked when we first met him. He showed a strong backbone that was supported by his strong moral code; he was certainly willing to take steps that others would fear to do what he thought was right. Too bad SG1 Woolsey and SGA Woolsey don't quite line up. I'm sure TPTB will work to resolve that. I'm intrigued to see how they pull it off. I'm sure Robert Picardo will be up to the challenge.

Oh, and yes, Rodney is indeed yummy. Scrumptious. Lickable.

[identity profile] violetvision78.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
OMG! Carson will be back? I was sooooo sad to see him go. I always said that since he is dead it is perfectly ok for them to bring one in from another alternate Universe! *hugs self* I wonder how McKay will take it?

[identity profile] violetvision78.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
I second that!

[identity profile] neevebrody.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
The icon is by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] nightingaledies. She does all kinds, but I love her SGA.

>>I could imagine his priorities shifting and his loyalties changing with this experience.<<

You know, I guess having your hide saved on a more or less regular basis by certain people with the expectation of having it happen in the future again and again will make you do exactly that - reconsidering your priorities and loyalties. *g*

That is a direction of development I would really be fond of, would be in character for Woolsey *and* would make for equally funny and thrilling scenes. So yes, I sincerely hope they're going that way, after much Pissy!John, Indignant!Rodney, NotPleased!Ronon and Scowly!Teyla, as you so aptly named them. *g*

Woolsey, huh? I can see this as the natural reaction from the IOA - Weir was firmly in their pocket, so they must've resented the militarisation-aspect of having Carter in charge. But after what Woolsey went through last time, why would he agree to that?
It looks set to be a woobie-tastic season

[identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com 2008-02-08 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Woobie-tastic indeed! After giving it some thought, I'm really looking forward to seeing Woolsey in charge. Especially after the events in "The Seer". I think it will be all kinds of interesting.
