A Scene from The Hive, Revisited

Yesterday I caught the rerun of "The Hive" that aired on Scifi and was reminded that it contained one of my most favorite Sheppard scenes of all time--when he's imprisoned on the Wraith Ship with the wraith worshiper chick, Neera. Clowns. Oh, John. Plus, you can never go wrong with intimate close-ups of JF's face.




John explains to Neera that they aren't going to be imprisoned for long, not if he can help it.


She asks if he's afraid of the wraith, and he answers "the Wraith? Naah. Now clowns -- that's another story. Scare the crap out of me." With the most perfect deadpan delivery. It's the height of adorableness. Or maybe this is:


Neera: "How will you get us out of here?" John: "OK, I haven't figured that part out yet -- but when I do, it's gonna be real impressive."


Then Neera decides she's cold and is going to cuddle for warmth. She's trying to use her womanly charms to get information out of John. John is immediately suspicious, because he has no idea why a girl would want to sit that close to him.


Then we get the tight closeup, and John talking in that low, soothing voice, gah--I could listen to that all day.


She's asking a lot of questions about where John's from...


Neera: Tell me what it looks like. John: Like every other world, I suppose: trees, water, mountains, Starbucks on every corner.


John is so totally on to her.

If I were that actress I'd make them have to reshoot this scene over and over and over again. ::wistful sigh::

Then John is even more clever and sets the wraith queens against each other and then he escapes and he's smart capable John and that's just really, really hot. Yay John!

If I had a John to snuggle with, I so wouldn't be peppering him with obnoxious questions so I could then turn him over to get wrinkle-fied. There'd definitely be a lot more snuggling than talking.

And god yes, I would immediately switch from Wrath-worshiper to John-worshiper. ::nods:: What is wrong with that girl?

You just know JF was really enjoying himself, too. He's talked about how he always wants to do the funny stuff. And he's pretty damn good at it.

I saw that yesterday, too and I agree, it's such a great scene. And when Neera snuggles up to him, he puts his arm around her and gives her upper arm a squeeze! Squeeeee! I love that part.

But it also made me remember what a truly rotten ending this episode had - with Ronon and Teyla and John, walking through the gate, like lalala, we're back. And then, they're in the infirmary and Rodney walks in saying, Why aren't you dead, like never had the look of devastation back on the Daedalus, thinking his entire team was gone and like the rest of the team didn't give a second thought about where Rodney was and if he was still with Ford's guys. That's why I never watch this episode.

Yeah, I was really irked by the ending, too, for those reasons. The ep itself is not one of my favorites, the pacing was all off and the writing was pretty darn clumsy. But the sheer adorableness of John in this scene made it worth watching again for me. The upper arm squeeze! Could he have looked any more uncomfortable? Hee!

Heh, that was the most girl-cootie scene evah! John was not only suspicious of her, he was thinking that Rodney would get really, really pissed if he saw John with a girl attached to his side. *g*

I love that scene! JF plays it so straight, it just kills me. Not to mention that John is practically squirming at being so close to a *girl*, of all things. *g* And that was before he got suspicious.

That look on his face when she snuggles up to him just slays me. And the little arm squeeze he gives her. He's so "OMG she's TOUCHING me".

I did have issues with ep as a whole, but that scene is just too fabulous. Hee!

I always loved this scene too. I think it's a beautiful way of showing a different side of John becuase, yeah, he'll sacrifice himself to save the whole of Atlantis but if it came down to just one person he'd be willing to put his life on the line too... actually I'm not sure if that's brave or self depreciating but it's John.

When she cuddled up to him I thought it was the cutest thing ever because how often do we actually get to see Sheppard touch anyone and it not be about violence or training.

I personally don't see it as self-deprecating. Definitely bravery plus a sense of responsibility as a soldier.

And the cuddling was awfully cute. It's nice to see a quiet moment like that, even though she was working for the wraith.
