Firefox just snuck in an update to version 3.05, which pisses me off to no end. My livejournal doesn't scroll properly now--it's all jerky and jumpy and headache-inducing. The same thing happened when I first tried FF3.0 (back when it first came out) and from what I could glean from on-line discussions, it has something to do with CSS and having a fixed background. I really don't want to change my layout. And getting rid of FF 3.0 and going back to 2.whatever was extremely painful the last time. Does anybody out there know how to get around this issue? Maybe how to fix it without making major changes to my layout? I haven't checked to see if the jumpy scrolling happens on my much newer computer at work, so maybe it's an artifact of my older processor?

Gah, Firefox, I never expected this from YOU!

I just thought of something. Maybe a disaster recovery will help?
I will try it right now.

There was something with the profile file that had to be deleted before it would accept an installation of 2.0 again, but I forget how I finally got the damn update to uninstall completely. This was a while back, so maybe they got rid of that 'feature'?

I don't know anymore.... I look exactly like McKay looks on your icon. *sighs*
I hate Explorer, but right now I hate Modzilla more.

Aw, your lion icon is very cute!

I'm trying out Google Chrome, and so far I'm liking it, but I'll probably end up missing my add ons too much to use it exclusively. Good luck, I hope you've made some progress in 'downgrading'!

It was doing that to me a couple days ago, too. I was very happy that it seemed to work itself out by the end of the day.

Now that would be cool. Right now my CPU maxes out every time I scroll. It's very frustrating.

Right now I'm giving Google Chrome a try. Looks good so far, but I don't know how long I can survive without AdBlock.

*pets*

There's a reason I've refused to update to FF3 yet.

Though I'm thinking of downloading Google Chrome and seeing how that works.

I did give that a try last night. It works very well, I like it a lot except I'm not sure how long I can survive without adblock. ::sighs::

Hmmm... no idea how to fix that off hand. Did googling help?

Personally, I just looked. I've still got a version 2 in ubuntu. But then, I'm using Opera most of the time.

It seems to be a known problem with FF3.0. My CPU is maxing out every time I scroll, so that's probably what is causing it. It's just ridiculous though. I'm probably just going to wrestle FF2.0 back onto the computer, although I had a lot of problems getting it to run last time.

Did you fix it? Yesterday, FF 3.06 was released, but I'm still stuck at 3.04 (I skipped 3.05 because of what happened to you), but I'm itching to update. Do I dare?

I was unable to fix it, but I was able to uninstall it completely and go back to 2.0.14. I found that with FF3 I was maxing out my CPU every time I tried to scroll on a page. My computer is a few years old, but I figured it shouldn't be bogging down that much!

So I'm happy with and sticking to FF2. Good luck!

Gah, I'm sorry to hear you had to go back to FF2. Have you tried asking at the mozillazine's forums? They're awesome. I love my FF3. Personally, I wouldn't be able to live without the zooming text and pictures through ctrl + anymore (my monitor is set to a ridiculously high resolution cos the programs I need to run need a lot of screen space) and browsing the Net was a pain, what with all the tiny font. Not anymore!

pssst: my computer is 2 years old.

I did check the forums, and it seems to be a known issue. Seems to mainly affect the scrolling on css pages with a fixed background. I know what you mean about tiny fonts, but FF2 also lets you use control+ to magnify the image. Although I already have to configured to use a larger font and that overrides page settings.

Now that I think about it, my computer is probably more than a few years old--I bought it used in 2006. I do have plans for a new one later this year!
