That was epic. In a big epic kind of way. I'm still in a daze from it all. Current thoughts:

- I may have squealed when they started the ep with the impala bit. It was just...perfect!

- Sam, you rock my world.

- Dean, you do too, honey.

- Chuck is god? ::dies::

- I loved that the rings thing failed the first time.

- CAS. AWESOME AWESOME CAS. I HAVE NO WORDS.

- Oh, wait, yes I do. I was devastated when he was killed, but then Bobby was killed and I knew they'd both come back. But I didn't expect full-on Angel Cas. Pleaseohplease come back next season!

- The Lisa thing was the only sour note. I just think there are better ways to represent Dean having a normal life.

- And the impala of brotherly love was the most awesomest of the awesome. That montage made me sniffly.

- Sammy, you're back!

My brain is all a-jumble and I need to watch a couple more times just to sort everything out.

::flails some more::

I'm really happy how it turned out for Cas. (But of course I hope he'll come back next season. An angel who occasionally pops in to say "hi" has been pretty much my best-case scenario, so I'm chuffed that hasn't been Jossed.)

Definitely need processing time. Wow.

When Cas went boom, it was so ridiculous I felt immediately like he was going to be back. And then they killed Bobby, and I was pretty damn sure. That was probably the only moment in the episode where I wasn't crying like a crazy person. (I am probably far too jaded to watch TV, but oh well.)

The Lisa thing was the only sour note. You know, Lisa doesn't feel right to me, because mostly I think that he had a better connection with several different girls throughout the series. But she was the one with a kid that he thought was his for a while, and I think that's where the connection comes from more than anything else. He needs a family, and there one was. It's still not healthy, and I think that's probably important for whatever comes next. Because there's no way that relationship is going to work when the only thing Dean wants is to die or to get Sam back. I'm sure Dean will keep trying, no matter what, but what's that going to be like for Lisa?

Wow. Sorry for blathering on. Wasn't Cas awesome with his holy Molotov cocktail?

That was a kind of ridiculous "boom", wasn't it? I was too surprised to cry. Actually, I only sniffled at the montage, I think I was too wired to really get emotional. Probably will sob as I rewatch it by myself after the husband goes to bed.

Because there's no way that relationship is going to work when the only thing Dean wants is to die or to get Sam back.

Yes! I can't see him trying to pretend he can live a normal life, although it might be interesting to see him try. For like, maybe one episode. Then go back to the Dean we know.

Cas was SO awesome with his holy Molotov cocktail. And whatever silly thing he yelled (now I can't remember!). It was adorable.

Cas's revival was a little bit of a letdown for me. I hope Misha is on for the sixth season because I'd like to see Cas back. Surely Raphael would kick his ass in heaven so it can't be as easy as it seemed.

Though I had some problems with the episode, I still liked it overall and I loved the montage. That would have been a perfect nod to the Brothers Winchester and end the series.

I'm taking comfort in the fact that it was all kind of left open for Cas to return. Or maybe never go back. And what happened with Raphael anyway, is he still stuck in that holy fire ring? I'll bet he's a little pissed.

I may have squealed when they started the ep with the impala bit. It was just...perfect!

I loved everything about that. The fact that Chuck was writing/narrating, the Impala, the Impala being THE MOST IMPORTANT OBJECT IN THE UNIVERSE.

Chuck is god? ::dies::

SO GOOD. SO GOOD.

Though I'm going to need to see all of his episodes and apply this new theory.

Pleaseohplease come back next season!

You have no idea how much I want this.

That montage made me sniffly.

I was crying openly through pretty much the whole thing, but mostly that.

Sammy, you're back!

You're kinda left wondering if that's Sam or Lucifer, but if Chuck IS God, then you KNOW that's Sam. Which is just. *Flails.*

I think you're right, if Chuck is God, then that has to be Sam. Plus, the face. He looked like Sam, not Lucifer.

I loved Chuck's narration. That was a nice touch.

Impala FTW!!

But there was ominous thunder, too. And Sam looked ... not right to me. Too emotionless. There was none of the usual Sam-eyebrow-woobie-action. He looked cold to me.

There's something fishy here. Cas must get back and explain!

Don't mean to be a party-pooper, here, I realised belatedly that my earlier comment might come across as confrontational: if you saw Sam as Sam, that's cool, too. Just different readings of the same source material. Either way can lead to good fic!

Oh, don't worry sweetie! It wasn't confrontational at all. Upon rewatching, I could see that Sam didn't quite look like our typical woobie Sammy, so it's probably more of a case of me NEEDING to be Sammy for reals. It does look kind of ambiguous.

Which I chalk up to them wanting it to be all cliffhangery and not it being Not!Sam.

Why yes, I live in my own little world. *g*

He doesn't need to be part of S6, but a mention that Adam returned to school or w/e would be nice. The poor kid gets eaten by ghouls, dicked around by angels, and THEN sealed in with Lucifer. D:

I think the Impala as the frame for the episode was pretty brilliant, everything else aside, because Kripke knows exactly how much we all love that car, and he knows we all understand what it symbolizes. Guaranteed to make us all choked up, as he tied that all together and put a bow on it; it was pretty beautiful. See, now I'm all teary again. *g*

baby wee-chesters carving their names... That was the most epic thing to have been Kripkeed ever, am I right or what?
I think that scene alone (and STULL ZOMG) is why, if the whole Chuck/God/Kripke thing is really Kripke playing at god through Chuck, then I'll buy. I feel the adoration already.

I'm of the opinion that Chuck was God only in that last shot where he's clean, sober, and in a nice suit. *g* I could argue it either way but for me it boils down to the SPN writers going for a 'gotcha' moment. I liked Chuck as he was and the idea of prophets in general. Of course if Chuck is God, does that mean that fanfic is heavenly sanctioned? *g*

It also appears that Cas is more of an angel than he was at the start. Don't know if he's been 'new and improved' into an archangel but I was just happy not to have him dead.

And Gabriel *will* return, I say, happy on my beach towel, toes in the water.

In retrospect, of *course* Chuck is God!

He's the biggest Mary Sue on the planet, and Kripke created SPN, so yeah, Kripke=God in this universe-- TOO PERFECT!

Although, I really didn't see it coming-- I thought it would be Missouri. *g*

The whole Lisa/Dean thing reeks of Sam/Jess, doesn't it? I've always felt that Dean stopped by Stanford to check on Sam, looking in from the outside to make sure he was okay. Now Sam is looking in to make sure Dean is okay. I just hope that Lisa doesn't end up on the ceiling in flames.

CHUCK IS GOD! ::flails::

The Impala is home! And the most important object in the universe! ::hearts::

Cas is badass!Angel again! Bobby lives! Sam is out of the cage! I DON'T EVEN KNOW!!!!!!11!!!!!!!11!!!!! ::flails!!

Hee! He is the biggest Mary Sue! I love it.

And yeah, the ending is making my brain all crazy, I don't buy for one minute that Dean can be happy living the suburban Dad life with Lisa and Ben, and Sam had better not walk away from there and leave Dean thinking he's still in hell, damn it!

And bad!ass angel Cas had better come back for a visit, or I will be all sulky and whiny next season.

I'm feeling kind of numb and shocky. That was an epic finale of Sam and Dean love, and i'm not even a Wincester. I loved the framing device of Chuck, and I love that Chuck is either God, or God was borrowing him for a bit

(I don't think Chuck has always been God because the first time the boys met him Dean was wearing the god-tracking amulet and it didn't heat up or whatever)

I am SO with you on Lisa. I hope it doen't continue over into s6 because I really don't see it working. They have no real connection, and Dean is too punch drunk to be thinking straight anyway at the moment.

The Sam and Dean is love indeed epic. And a beautiful, beautiful thing. I love that it's what saves the world.

And the amulet, what is with that? I hate that they dropped that storyline completely. I don't mind the ambiguity about Chuck always being god, but I want them to revisit the amulet thing.

Impala Love!!! Yes, that made so much sense to me, the way they showed the car as a home. It seemed to touch the heart of the series -- way more than Chuck's peculiar epilogue.

Sam was incredibly brave!

The Lisa thing was the only sour note. I just think there are better ways to represent Dean having a normal life.
YES and yes and yes. First off, what's 'normal'? Is it a white picket fence and a nuclear family? Or is it the not-hunting of demons? Because if it's the latter then, yes, there have to different ways to represent normal. And how come they all assume normal equals happy? Maybe this is a severe case of 'the grass is greener on the other side'.

I'm very sure Cas will be back next season. Anything else would be a waste!!

Oh, for the record: I'm absolutely fond of Chuck and I liked the voice-over for the Impala story. But something about that final narration didn't sit right with me. I can't even put my finger on it. Maybe it's just that I couldn't figure out why Chuck (if it was still Chuck at this point) was smiling. Does he think Dean has his happy ending? Or does he know something we don't, something good on the horizon?

Date: 2010-05-15 07:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thegrrrl2002.livejournal.com
I agree, the final part of the voice-over was a bit off-putting, as much as I adore Chuck. I think it was just a little too much self-insertion by Kripke, maybe.

But I also think he knows there is something good on the horizon. ::nods firmly::

Maybe this is a severe case of 'the grass is greener on the other side'.

I think so. Plus, I can't see Dean just giving up hunting when he knows there are people out there that he can save. That's what has always driven him in the past. I can see him needing a break from it, but in the end, I think it will call him back.

As for Cas, it seems like they left it open for him to come back, it certainly didn't sound like a final goodbye. And he didn't seem all that keen on going back to heaven. I say he'll return sooner rather than later. He'll miss Dean far too much to keep away. *g*

Good point! I only hope it won't be the other way around and his old life catches up with him first. I think he needs a little time to breathe and put himself back together again. He's only human after all.
