SPN 6.04 Weekend at Bobby's
Oct. 16th, 2010 09:03 amSo. Much. Love. for this ep. Bobby is awesome, and I would tune in every week to watch the Bobby & Rufus show. Love that we get to see how Bobby really comes up with all the lore the boys need when they call him. Loved him working the phone bank. And I loved the flirty neighbor. Don't give up on Bobby just yet! He's really a sweet guy under all that gruff. And blood. And gore.
And it's no surprise that Crowley weaseled out of giving up his claim on Bobby's soul. Poor Crowley, having so much trouble running hell. He and Cas need to get together over a bottle of whiskey and have a good gripe session. I would totally tune in to watch that, too. Loved how Bobby got his soul back, loved all the Sam and Dean bits, and loved loved loved them going to Scotland. Even if it did involve a plane ride. Aw, Dean.
Interesting bit of information about the demons, that they can be destroyed by torching their remains.
I give JA two thumbs up on the directing. The only part that seemed to go over the top was the chipper with the blood--a bit heavy-handed, but still, it was funny.
I've always loved all the humorous SPN eps, and this one is no exception. Need to rewatch now.

Date: 2010-10-16 02:34 pm (UTC)Some of the humorous episodes were too much for me, especially recently, but this managed to stay on track with the tone of the season and strike the right balance.
I'm a happy camper.

Good point about the woodchipper. I was a classic. I'll take it as a homage, too! Makes me feel better about it.

Hee, I loved this episode. Bobby is full on awesome and so were the rest of the cast. The continuity was fabuluous, too: Dean who's afraid of flying, Bobby who knows Japan/Japanese ... I wonder if Bobby's ever been to Japan. That might make a great episode for the Bobby Singer spin-off. Because they're planning that right? Right??

Date: 2010-10-16 09:11 pm (UTC)Could be Bobby needed to get as far away from home as possible after what happened to his wife. And since he'd always been fascinated by Japan he figured the trip might distract him. But then it was all rainy and gloomy and full of monsters lurking in closets. He'd been halfway down the hunting lane when he met Rufus, who yelled at him for being such a greenhorn.
It's not like I have other stories to write, damn it :)

Date: 2010-10-16 09:01 pm (UTC)i absolutely love Jensen's directing style; he doesn't seem to enjoy lingering too long on any one shot, which i really love and i think it really suited an episode like this. c:

Date: 2010-10-16 09:08 pm (UTC)I agree about the directing, the pacing was wonderful, especially for a humorous ep, which can really fall flat if not done right. Kudos to JA!
