So, I had been obsessing over thinking about the MGM promotional pic that ningyouhime so kindly scanned into jd_daily. It has nothing to do with the fact that the quality of the image is so fine that you can see the little hairs on their arms and the occasional freckle on their shoulder, no, because that would be a pathetical little fangirly thing to even look for stuff like that.

But come on, for them to be standing thisclose and the way Daniel/MS practically has his crotch snugged up against Jack/RDA's hip? Sure, it might be two separate, photoshopped images, but even the fact that someone chose to do that with the images is really amazing. And while I suppose MS was trying to look tough and macho and heroic, instead he looks adorably pouty and whiny. Anyway, while carefully examining the picture, I've come to the conclusion that Daniel had been on his way to get Jack for their afternoon "supply run" to the stockroom, but instead Jack mistakenly scheduled a photoshoot for that time (the President insisted, really, he did, something about SGC training films). Daniel was so not happy. As a result, he was unbearably sulky and horny, bitched at Jack the through the whole shoot, and spent the timet thinking of all the ways he was going to torment Jack that night. Including not letting him come until morning. Or maybe never.

There was much discussion/speculation about this pic when cdeacon first posted the link a while ago. I thought at first it was photoshopped, but now I'm not so sure. And anyway, whether it is or isn't, what were they thinking down there in the publicity department?? :D They are indecently close together! I love it.

I'm still in the "has to be manipped" camp. (It's just... I know why I'm so adamant, I now realize. It's because dammit, Daniel *isn't* that much smaller, or at least shorter, than Jack. And making that kind of mistake reminds me of the way some slashers diminunize Daniel as in relation to the whole "Daniel by default is the girly bottom-boy" thing, which gets RIGHT up my nose.)

But lord, it just does not matter. I want... I want to know who it is down in the bowels of the MGM publicity department whom we have to thank for this. Because I am thinking that flowers, a big box of chocolates, SOMETHING along those lines is in order. And whether it was the director of the photo shoot saying "Michael, Rick, could you just squeeze in a little bit closer? Yeah, like that...", or else somebody crouched over their keyboard, Photoshopping like mad -- I don't care. They deserve SUCH a reward.

They certainly do *seem* to have gotten over any squeamishness about slash connotations... if indeed they actually ever had any, as many suggested was the case in S4 and S5. While I never bought the extent of the conspiracy theory, even to my eyes, the show certainly went through a much-less-slashy period and now all of a sudden is startlingly slashy.

...and wouldn't that be a series finale to remember...

It really doesn't matter to me whether it's manipped or not, as the end result is the same. =D Still, I'm not struck at all by the difference in their height. Rick is taller than Michael by two inches, and if Michael's feet are a few more inches apart in his stance than Rick's, it's going to add even more to the height difference between them. In another promotional shot from the session, Michael is taller than Chris [despite being three inches shorter], just because Chris has a wider stance in the photo. =D
