I'm working from home today, and as usual, senior kitty Won't Shut Up. Because a) I won't let him on my lap, and b) I won't let him bite the other cat. So the result? Caterwauling. ::headdesk:: Endlessly.

He's always been a needy thing, but now he's old and crotchety and very, very vocal. He'll eventually tire himself out and curl up in the catbed, staring at me adoringly. I'll tell him to go toward the light and he'll just purr at me.

We do this all the time.

::snicker::

Let him bite the other cat, really. Lily and Sophie used to have really serious territorial issues, and little foundling Sophie would go out and get into real wrestling matches with a totally pissy Lily. Calvin would then get involved, because he tended to be protective of Lily, even though Lily needed protection like a Sherman tank. Eventually, my Boy absconded with Calvin and Hobbes, and left Lily alone with her arch-rival and me.

Today, they actually play wrestled. Lily is now, sheesh, nine, and Sophie is eight and they actually play.

(How can Lily possibly be eight years old? This is worse than the KIDS!)

Back when we first got the new cat (to replaced another cat that he actually got along with) we tried for quite some time to introduce them to each other. We contemplated letting them 'fight it out', but her reaction was so severe it seemed cruel. The other cat used to tussle with him, but with her, the tone of the encounter was completely different. We couldn't bear the thought of returning her, so we figure, hey, he's 15, how much longer can he live?

That was three years ago. I know, 18 isn't totally unusual for a cat, but we figured a cat this highstrung should burn out a little sooner, no?

I sound so heartless. I do cuddle him, really, I do. Just not constantly.

Awwwm, poor fellow. Well, you've got a point, Lily is just a spring chickie compared to eighteen.

But frankly, since I'm such a loser, it gives me hope that Lily and Sophie will be around at least as long as I hope to be around....

::sighing::

Although I keep hearing from the psychics that I'll be around at ninety. Bleh.

I know! It's worse than being home with kids, isn't it? (Emily is even now sitting in the doorway and yowling at me. Because she CAN.)

Earlier I watched as Morgan, who was happily occupying my lap, got up and walked across the couch for no other reason than to pounce on Emily's butt through the curtain (because Emily was sitting in the window). This was pure evil on Morgan's part. But she startled Emily *REAL GOOD* and I guess that was the aim. "That was mean," I said to her, as she came back to resume her place on my lap. "Just, mean."

(Morgan is older, and about half Emily's size. Emily has been my cat longer, but she is the biggest wuss in the world. Largely, though, they do get along and play, with about a 05-50 split between who instigates with whom.)

Boo for the caterwauling, but -- yay! for being off work and the adoring stares. :)

I did work this morning. And said cat is now curled up on some rather important papers. ::sighs:: But at least he's quiet.
