Yay, renewals!

So, put me squarely into the "all a-twitter over another season of SG-1" category! There were enough really good eps so far in Season 8 to make me feel quite excited about Season 9. And it goes without saying I'm happy about the renewal of Atlantis, although there wasn't any doubt in my mind that it was going to return. I'm feeling all happy and fannish today. I'm also quite busy here at work, but yet managed a quick, somewhat pointless Jack/Daniel vignette. Because I wanted to play with them a bit.
"What do you mean? Where would I be?"
"I know--I don't know," Daniel sighed. "It's like you are hardly ever here anymore."
Jack blinked. "Of course I'm here. If I wasn't here, where else would I be?"
Daniel threw down his pen. "I don't mean here, here, I mean *here* here," he said, waving his hand at the interior of his office.
"Oh. I see." One eyebrow rose up.
Clearly, he didn't. Daniel scowled, annoyed that Jack wasn't getting it. "Never mind. Don't you have some General stuff to go and do? Memos to read? Reports to sign off on? Requisitions of mine to turn down?"
But Jack didn't leave. Instead he grabbed a chair, pulled it next to Daniel's, and sat down. "Is that what this is about? The new storage unit you wanted?"
"The what? No, Jack, that's not what this is about."
"I told you, once we get the lower level reorganized--"
"That's fine, okay? Fine. Just fine."
"Then what's with the attitude?"
"Attitude? What attitude?"
"The whole--you know--PMS thing."
Daniel glared, with his best 'you-are-so-never-getting-any-again' expression before turning to his computer. "I don't see the point of even dignifying that with a response. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a briefing on P3X-090 to prepare for SG-12."
Jack slid his chair even closer, his leg bumping against Daniel's. Daniel ignored it went back to his work, resizing aerial MALP photos. That one, right there, that showed the temple in the center of town--just the one he needed to make his point, especially if he could get that statue to show clearly--
Another nudge at his leg. A scuff of the chair as it moved impossibly closer, and somehow, a hip sliding up against his. "Pretty. It's a giant anteater, right? No, wait, is that his dick?"
"Jack, I swear, you're the--"
"Yes?" Warm brown eyes, the very picture of innocence, and yet still that long, hard thigh pressing up against his. Daniel relented. It was the damn touching. Jack knew just how to get to him. Always did.
"I miss you, that's all," he explained. "You've been so busy." Now that he put it into words, it sounded disturbingly whiny. That wasn't him, all whiny and needy, was it?
But Jack seemed to understand. He patted Daniel's leg, appearing oddly touched by Daniel's whine. "I know. There's so freakin' much to do. So much paper--the phones--the meetings--I swear, the days aren't long enough."
"That's just it. It's hard getting used to you being the man and all." Daniel sighed. Okay, he could let himself be a little needy. "I miss this. I miss you hanging around here, bugging the hell out of me. I miss you dragging me out for, uh, lunch on slow days. I miss you going off-world with us." That was the hardest part, maybe. Stepping through the gate and not having Jack at his side.
Jack smiled sadly. "Yeah, well--it's hard watching you go through that gate, okay?" His voice was rough.
"Yeah, well," Daniel echoed. He bumped Jack's leg, once, twice. It was all he could do right now. The kissing would have to wait until the evening. Late evening.
The phone rang, startling them both. Daniel picked it up.
"General O'Neill?"
Wordlessly, he handed to the phone to Jack.
Jack took the phone, frowning. He listened for a minute. "It what? When? Okay, on my way." He handed the phone back to Daniel and stood.
"Duty calls?" asked Daniel.
"You got it." Jack nodded at the presentation on the computer screen. "How late?"
"Not too. Eleven or so."
"Okay." Jack stepped backwards. "See you then?"
Daniel grinned. "You bet. Now could you please go so I could get some work done?"
"Bite me," Jack called out over his shoulder as he left the room.
"Oh, believe me, I intend to," Daniel said quietly.
"What do you mean? Where would I be?"
"I know--I don't know," Daniel sighed. "It's like you are hardly ever here anymore."
Jack blinked. "Of course I'm here. If I wasn't here, where else would I be?"

Date: 2004-11-16 09:55 am (UTC)Poor sweet Daniel, whiny as hell, and poor Jack. I'm certain he's suffering as much as Daniel, just way better at sublimating and not showing it. *bg*
Loved the ending by the way, that was just perfect. ;-)
