Stargate Atlantis: "Sanctuary" (1x14)
Nov. 30th, 2004 05:22 pmOh my goodness. ::giggles::
Okay, could I love Rodney any more than I already do? This was an episode that could have been painfully insipid, aside from some cute Sheppard flirty moments with Chaya, but god, it was saved by Jealous!Pissy Rodney. He was fabulous from the very start, while they were in the puddle jumper getting shot at--"It's not like I'm holding back on you" when John was asking for Rodney to fix the weapons. I don't know about you, but that line just seems kind of porny to me. Then the "best behavior" business-
John, in a stage whisper: "Rodney--best behavior!"
Rodney: "this is as good as it gets, Major"
::dies::
The snark level in this one? Goes to 11. Especially for the "that's like asking the fox to guard the henhouse" line. He didn't let up, not for a moment, snarking with the kind of dedication that only Rodney could have. A Jealous Rodney. A jealous, smoldering Rodney.
John's scene with Teyla was pretty cute, too. She, at least, gets to be feisty with him. I really liked how, at least in the beginning, everyone was so amused by Sheppard's reaction to Chaya. Except for Rodney.
Unfortunately, there was nothing about Chaya that seemed to warrant Sheppard's attraction--yeah, she was pretty, and he was pretty when he was being so goofy and cute with her, but ultimately, her character fell pretty flat for me. I couldn't see what he was getting so worked up about. She was pretty, but there's plenty of pretty women on Atlantis. And it was played so dull, even when he kissed her, it was him kissing her, she was pretty passive. I wasn't getting any 'oh, I shouldn't be doing this vibes' from her, but just...flat. C'mon, if we're going to have the hero romancing an alien, wouldn't it be fun to have her thrown him down and savage him? This show needs some woman writers. In a big way. But instead, we get insipid sap, which nonetheless drives Rodney nuts to see his ranking military officer wrapped around her finger. ::snorts::
And, on the shallow side, we get Rodney in the Slinky Blue Nipple Enhancing T-Shirt. Oh yeah, keep those sets chilly. We like that. And we get a close-up of McKay hands! Mmmm. Porny. A little lap action there, too, under the table.
For the fic writers--okay, the Athosians are making wine now, that was kind of quick, wasn't it? And, if I remember correctly, there are a couple of hundred people on Atlantis, including the Athosians.

Date: 2004-11-30 03:48 pm (UTC)Hmmm, given the snark went to 11, was this ep written by Peter DeL? He's found a match made in heaven with McKay...
Female aliens jumping on the male leads? Very Farscape. Or Klingon.
Ok, now I'm off to do my own impression of a Jealous!Rodney at all you lucky enough to have seen the last 3 eps.

Date: 2004-11-30 05:50 pm (UTC)Oh, it really, really does. Back, porny thoughts!
That Chaya was an Ancient hit me so early and seemed so obvious that I started thinking something else might be at work there. In the scene where Rodney
shows us his lapscans her during her interview, for just a minute I thought they were going in the "she's got some power that makes people like her" direction, and then that made me much happier about Shep falling for her unimpressive charms. But--no, not so much. Then I thought, maybe it's an Ancients' gene calling out to one another thing. Nope. So my current theory is that John was fearing his growing attraction to his incredibly difficult, snarky woobie, and jumped at the chance tojumpfall in with a pretty, sweet, inoffensive curvy little thing, 'cause that's so much easier. It's all about the woobie. *g*

Date: 2004-12-01 06:14 am (UTC)Of course, he was thinking of Rodney the whole time. *g*

Date: 2004-12-01 06:34 am (UTC)That's what he said. But doesn't that seem a rather small number? I would have guessed at least twice that, maybe three times. At the rate they're losing personnel, Atlantis is going to be nearly deserted pretty soon. Or you know, eventually, whatever. *g* At least nobody died this week.
Anyway, it was really All Abotu Rodney's Jealousy, wasn't it? That was utterly delightful. *g*

Date: 2004-12-01 06:42 am (UTC)And Rodney's Jealousy was really the only thing the ep had going for it (IMHO) but it was so fabulous I really didn't mind. I'm such a pathetic fangurl. *g*

Date: 2004-12-01 06:58 am (UTC)On one level it was Shep seeing a pretty girl, trying to be diplomatic to get some arrangement for refugees out of her.
On the other level, Sheppard seemed to like her and McKay immediately realized that. Thus jealousy and snarkiness.
I think this eps can be the best basis for the fic bunnies to breed. ;-)
