That darn
danvers. But I am her slave, and I do what she commands. Plu--John, naked, under a waterfall. How can I deny her anything after that?
1) Total volume of music files on my computer?
1.9 GB. I put all my belly dance class CDs on my computer, because I practice here in the office. Carefully (really, there's not much space).
2) The last CD I bought was...
Woo! Johnny Cash, American IV: The Man Comes Around. Because
danvers put selections up in one of her previous posts, and I was totally captivated. It's an excellent CD. BTW, danvers, husband says thank you for the suggestion. He loves it, too.
3a) The last song I listened to before writing this was...
Something silly on the radio as I drove home...hmmm, I think the last song was "Dancing With Myself" by Billy Idol. As if I didn't hear that song enough when I was in college. I saw Billy Idol in concert though, while in college, and he put on a terrific show. He really came across as quite personable, and dare I say, sweet, even.
3b) Song playing right now:
LOL, none, aside from senior cat's caterwauling.
4a) Five songs I listen to a lot.
1. Rakset Claribel. Because currently we are learning a choreography to it. A very nice, very classical oriental dance, with a veil intro. The opening of the song always makes me giggle though, because it's so big and bombastic. The dance itself is a little beyond me, but the parts I do get, I'm very proud of.
2. Nereedak. At least I think that's the name of it. I took a bedouin dance workshop a few months ago, and this was the song we danced to. The workshop was fabulous, very lively and exuberant and I still love listening to song because of it.
3. Zeina from Electric Oasis. Very fun and funky. How can you NOT dance to it?
4. Ne me quitte pas by Natasha Atlas, from her Ayeshteni CD. I have no idea what she's saying, but it's all very dramatic and heartfelt.
5. "In My Life", sung by Johnny Cash. ::sniffles::
4b) Songs that mean a lot to me.
The entire "Wavelength" album by Van Morrison. Back in the olden days, when I first started dating my husband (late 80's) we listened to a lot of Van, especially this one. And every time I hear it now, it brings me back to when everything was new and shiny and fun. Not that things aren't shiny and fun now, but it's such a thrill when you first realize that you've found the right someone.

Date: 2005-05-18 10:47 pm (UTC)She sings something like this:
Don't leave me, we need to forget erverything we can forget, everything we already escaped , forget the times we've spent saying words unmeant and the times we've lost hours that must destroy never knowing why everything dies at the heart of joy
Don't leave me don't leave me
I'd offer you pearls of rain from a country where it never rains, I'd travel the earth until my death to be able to cover your body in gold and light. I'll build you a home where love is the king and you are the queen, don't leave me
Don't leave me
For you I'll invent words without sense that only you would understand, I'd tell you of the lovers who seperated and then fell in love again, their hearts embracing. I'd tell you the tale of the king who died from not meeting you, Don't leave me.
One has often seen the fire of an old volcano come back to life, a volcano thought too old. It seems that scorched earth gives us more wheat than the best April, and when the evening comes with a flaming sky, red and black don't marry.
Don't leave me
Don't leave me
I will cry no more I will talk no more, I'll hide myself there to see you dance and smile and to listen to you sing and laugh, let me be the shadow of your shadow, the shadow of your hand, the shadow of your dog, don't leave me.
A rather free translation, but yes, it's tragic. The song is by Jacques Brel, but the most beautiful version was sung by Nina Simone.

Date: 2005-05-18 11:16 pm (UTC)Anytime dude. In fact, I'll send you a copy of American III: Solitary Man (once I find it) - that's another album I really love. I also have American Recordings by Cash, if you want it.
Also, I downloaded the songs you mentioned and I think you might like this (http://s12.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0R5H1D93ERO482C0GU1HAPY3R6).

Date: 2005-05-23 09:57 am (UTC)I'm here on a mission. You told me to drop you a line when The Walls Of Jericho (http://www.livejournal.com/users/icarusancalion/368976.html) (Jack/Daniel, long-fic, ring a bell?) was done, edited, beta'd, ironed, drip-dried.
It's done. *collapses in a heap*
