The Sheppard/McKay Year in Review, or: How Much Do I Love My Shiny Gay Show?

The Defiant One

Oh yeah. This ep originally aired almost a year ago (Jan 28, 2005) and the slashy lights were burning bright. The entire ep, from start to finish, was all about the big gay love. The ending, with Rodney rushing off to John's rescue, was a thing of beauty, but their bickering in the opening scenes is my favorite. Just what did John mean by "Now I know why parents shouldn't teach their kids to drive"?


Then comes the mad love of: Before I Sleep

The one where they stand in each other's personal space...


And talk about size.


The Brotherhood

How come the eps where they're supposed to be interested in other women are the slashiest ones ever?


Because no woman can come between this. I mean, look at Rodney's eyes. ::sighs:: It's all just too lovely for words. The Mensa thing was just the icing on the cake. And one of the cutest Rodney moments ever.


The Gift

Even in episodes like "The Gift", where both characters are more or less in the background, there are still these little moments of awareness between them.


Same with Siege I



And the angstfest of Siege II, (which left me traumatized for months...)

"So long, Rodney"? That line, spoken so softly that Rodney can't hear it, just kills me.




As does Rodney's expression, when he realizes what's going on.


Siege III

An entirely action-filled ep, yet we get the utterly gratuitous balcony scene of love. Just take that extra step and hold hands, okay? You're really not fooling anyone anymore.


The Intruder

That yearning gaze, once again. Or is it his "my boyfriends the smartest boyfriend ever gaze"?


A moment of peril, and all they can do is stare into each other's eyes.


Condemned

I can't believe they're being so flirty in front of everyone.


Trinity

Ah, yes, Trinity. The episode where we see John do his "you're so cute I could kiss you right now" laugh.


The one where they exchange loving gazes in puddlejumpers...(okay, so Zelenka is getting in on the loving gaze action a bit there too.)


And then it goes all to hell. My favorite bit was here, back on the planet, when John bangs on Rodney's computer to get his attention. It's a very unJohn-like move, to be that physical. And it's really hot when he yells.


When the dust settles, John's pissed, but you know he's can't stay angry. He basically says as much.


Instinct

The episode with the head-thwap of love.


Aurora

Oh how I loved this ep. The one where John's face lights up...


And they look all pretty in blue. Rakish! Rodney describes John's hair as rakish. So. Not. Straight.


And their little exchange near the end, where John has to explain why the hot chick knows about Atlantis, is one of my favorites.


And finally, we come to The Lost Boys

Rodney angsting in the field of green.

Oooh, the eye contact as Rodney's being taken from John. Nice.

One of my favorite moments is the one in Aurora when Rodney says that he and John take turns saving each other's lives, "and it's my turn." I mean, awww.

It hurts to watch, but the hallway scene in "Sanctuary"--how the heck am I supposed to read that, if not "jealousy!"

"Duet," John's breathless, "Rodney, you okay?" when he rematerializes.

Love these caps! I never thought of the "So Long" line as being too low for Rodney to hear, but I think you're right.

Other great bits:

-The eyefuck over the 720 permutations in Rising. John's all, "I have math skilz too, yo." :)

-Walking through the field together in Underground, with the whole "We're lost" conversation - "Ah yes, because everything's a straight line in Sheppard's world." - "You don't know what strange means?" "I know what strange means, Rodney."

-The look on Rodney's face when Sheppard materializes on the bridge in The Intruder.

I'm not done with the final version of the annual report, but I'm peeking anyway, because I just got the layout set and my boss sent me another picture to include. Grrr. Aaaarrrrggghhhh. If he expected me to work more than 15 hours per week, I'd be really annoyed.

These are so gorgeous - thank you for posting them all together. They make me realize that while Sheppard almost recoils when anybody else gets in his personal space, that is definitely NOT his reaction to Rodney. McKay is the only person John seems comfortable having close up and also, the only one I can think of that John voluntarily reaches out and touches.

Bwah! This always happened in The Invisible Man, too.

One of my favorite things that I don't think anybody's mentioned yet: in "Aurora", not only does Rodney risk his life (as far as he knows) by going into the pod, he risks living but having brain damage. BRAIN DAMAGE, people! That's got to be Rodney McKay's worst nightmare, but when John's in danger, he just jumps right in.

Oh, and when he's blinking back tears in "Siege III" after he finds out that John is alive (granted, it's also after he finds out that the Daedalus is there to save their asses, but still. TEARS. God, the expression on Rodney's face in those scenes in "Siege II/Siege III" -- he's so heartbroken, then so overwhelmed with relief, that I just can't get over it.

Oh, yes, all the moments in Aurora are great, but the fact that Rodney takes those specific risks in order to rescue John...sweet! *g* I just adored that ep.

Rodney's face in Siege II/III breaks my heart. They focus in on those big blue eyes, and I just fall apart. DH is amazing.

in suspicion: when John kept on noticing Rodney's discomfort after being stunned with the wraith stunner, John's reaction to Rodney being shot in the face with the wraith stunner, John reassuring Rodney at the end before they captured Steve

in Childhood's end: Johns' annoyed face when Rodney starts babbling about Sam in the jumper while everyone else looks interested

at the end of eye when John gives Rodney the 'your so going to get it later' look after Rodney explains about his arm

Hot Zone: John defying orders from Weir right about the same time Rodney says that Pierce(sp?) whatever his name was would get to the gateroom if he weren't stopped

Intruder: usually Rodney tells people to move when he needs them to or he shoves them but woth John he gently moves him aside, its so different from how Rodney usually treats people

Instinct: all the little looks between them

Mnay more but i just wanted to name one's that no one mentioned. There some parts in Home but i can't remember them.

I was trying to focus on 2005 but yeah, all those moments, especially from "Suspicious" were all slashtastic. *g* Oh, and that way he moves John in "Intruder" definitely caught my eye, too. Such a difference from his barked "MOVE" that other people get.

Because, obviously, John is special. *g*
