I wrote a "thing"...
May. 17th, 2004 08:44 amIt's Monday already--how did that happen? Last I checked, it was Friday night. I hate when that happens.
I wrote a thing. It was supposed to be a drabble. Only I'm not very good at drabbles, and it's over 300 words, so I suppose it's drabble-esque. I hate categorizing things. Although, clearly, I like the word "thing". "Thing" and "stuff", my standard means of communication. Hard to believe I actually kan write, you know? Anyway, here's the damn thing:
Disarmament
Daniel is halfway to the kitchen when the shoe bounces off his backside. He stops in mid-stride. "Jack?" he asks, turning. "What the hell was that?"
Jack is sitting up straight on the couch, hands clasped and resting on his lap. "Just checking."
He says it as if Daniel should understand. "Just checking?" Daniel repeats.
"Yeah." Jack shrugs. "Just checking."
"Okay," Daniel says, not understanding at all. But he sees a glimpse of something in Jack's face, something that might be fear, or sadness. For a second he wants to go to Jack, and maybe even hug him.
Then the expression is gone, and all he sees in Jack's face is impatience. "You were going to grab me a beer while you were up?" Jack prompts.
"Right." Daniel decides to put Jack's inexplicable shoe-throwing behavior aside, at least for the time being. Besides, he's fairly certain that if he tried to hug Jack right now, Jack would only squirm and complain, shoving him away like an ornery cat. Or maybe a wary one. Daniel begins to walk away, but out of the corner of his eye he sees Jack move again, reaching down.
Going for his other shoe.
"Okay, that's it." Daniel returns to Jack, kneels, and captures Jack's remaining shoe. "Give me this." He tosses the shoe aside, then eyes Jack's gray socks. He decides Jack probably knows how to use socks as ammunition. Erring on the side of caution, he slides the socks off of Jack's feet.
Jack doesn't say anything, he only watches Daniel's hands as they hold his feet.
The belt is next. Daniel can only imagine trouble Jack would conjure up with a belt. For good measure, he removes Jack's shirt. It's a bit more work to strip Jack of his pants and boxers, but eventually they go, too, tossed with everything else over his shoulder to land in a pile in the center of the room.
Only when Jack is laid bare does Daniel gather him up in and hug him. Jack still doesn't complain, not one word, no matter how hard Daniel squeezes him. He just quietly says Daniel's name, closes his eyes, and holds on just as tight.

Date: 2004-05-17 08:44 am (UTC)I'm really touched by your FB. Thank you so much! So glad this hit all the right notes for you. I just so loved that moment in Abyss, when Jack threw his shoe. Okay, so I loved every single damn moment of Abyss.
BTW, great icon! Could Jack BE any cuter?

Date: 2004-05-17 08:28 am (UTC)Vignette works, if not drabble, but if you don't want it to be a vignette, thing works for me too :)

Date: 2004-05-17 10:44 am (UTC)I had thought maybe 'vignette' but it didn't feel vignette-y for some reason. Maybe it's just a Monday thing. *g*

Date: 2004-05-17 09:09 am (UTC)Oh, yes, Grrrl. You rite reel good. Reel good indeed. (And I've always thought drabbles were overrated anyway.)
I'm still going icon crazy, by the way. As you may perhaps be aware.

Date: 2004-05-17 01:05 pm (UTC)Love the icon! That one really rocks. Icons are addictive. As is making them. I have stash of them on my hard drive, and I occasionally pull them up and just look at them. Haven't uploaded them to my journal or anything. I just...look.
I'm not sure that's healthy.
Thank you for the kind words, though. Glad you thought it was reel good.

Date: 2004-05-17 09:30 am (UTC)You know what they say, it's not the size of your thing that counts, it's what you do with it.
::groan::
And you probably shouldn't use the word "stuff" too near your "thing". Just saying.

Date: 2004-05-17 01:06 pm (UTC)I will heed your "stuff" and "thing" advice. Although it sounds like it might be fun...

Aw.
I got to go hug the cat.

Date: 2004-05-17 02:20 pm (UTC)Couldn't agree more. Can't get enough of that. And sweetly, slowly, seductively stripped Jack, all nice and naked, being gathered up and hugged by Daniel? Mmmmmm. I love being-comforted!Jack. And I love Daniel being the comforter.
(I also love Daniel thinking that Jack will react to hugging the way a wary, contrary cat would.)
I think...that is an excellent note on which to abandon this CRAPPY afternoon and finally leave work and go HOME.

Date: 2004-05-18 08:57 am (UTC)Thank you for your kind words on my thing. I love JackComfort, too. Especially Naked JackComfort.
Now, with that in mind, plus the icon, how the heck am I supposed to get any work done today?

That, and I'm still muchly amused that you caved in and got an lj. [/delayed reaction]

Hope your booger situation clears up. And there's never TMI on LJ. *g*
