That There Icon Meme That's Going Around.

Icons are such a happy thing. I think everyone should do this meme.

Current default icon:

Because John's all about the porn. Rodney's doing something porny to him right now, can't you tell?

Oldest icon:

I made this one two years ago, and I still love the expression on Daniel's face.

Newest Icon:

I've been fiddling with this one for a couple of months, and was considering it a lost cause until I tried a few more things with it today. Desaturating the color helped change the mood of it. I like it now.

Saddest Icon:

Oh, come on, it's a very sad icon!!

Okay, how about this one:

John just looks all kinds of conflicted and angsty. Poor thing. He needs sexin'.

Happiest Icon:

Happy Sam Squee! She's so cute. Her smile makes me smile.

Seriously, I have no idea. But it might be this one, because I loved "Inferno", and it just doesn't get any better than John and Rodney gazing into each other's eyes.

I know there's another bit, with the questions for my flist, but I'm going to be busy with an industry conference all this week, which means I'll be away from my computer and unable to respond in a timely manner. ::sobs:: Which also means I'll be a little late getting to the rest of the comments on "Unanticipated Outcomes". So sorry! All the comments are lovely, and they made me very happy. I've been feeling warm and fuzzy all weekend because of them. I promise to finish responding by the end of the week!

You use effects? With my new screen, everybody's icons look different to me now, but nearly all of your icons managed the transition better than others, colour and contrast still pleasing. Though I can't ever bring myself to use/offer under- or overdeveloped icons (why? is it the 35mm usage?), I really like your newest one (http://pics.livejournal.com/thegrrrl2002/pic/0002fpsz)! So how do you work? I find it very interesting to compare and discuss :)

I'm not doing (these) memes, I always think they bore my flist.

I wonder if you could possibly lend me your ear eye next week (whenever you have time again)? Glance at something (probably short and) porny for me?

I do all sorts of things with the icons. I use GIMP, which is very much like photoshop, or so I hear. I play around with the layers and the effects, sharpen up their features, smooth out their skin, sharpen up bits of hair with John, always, and probably never do the same set of effects twice. I never really plan ahead when I'm iconing, it's totally random except for a few basics steps.

I'm glad you like the newest one, I almost gave up on it. I can't quite remember what I did with it since I started it quite some time ago. But today I made one more duplicate layer set to soft light, blurred it, and desaturated the base, and that seemed to make it work better. It was looking too stark before that. I'm pretty sure I set an "unsharp mask" filter over it, too. Did that make any sense?

As for the fic, I won't have any free time until Friday of this week, but feel free to send it over any time!

I deleted GIMP a few years ago, can't remember why, but it's highly recced as a cheap alternative, yes.

Heh, once again you seem exactly like me then. Except I wish I would take notes or save/record steps so I don't have to reinvent the wheel all the time.

Dunno what "unsharp mask" is (always the problem with not having an English version, but yes, it made sense. :)



As for the fic, I'm not sure if I can already send you the current two pages to see if you think the sex works and/or if you prefer I wait until the very last minute and not send that draft?
