The one where John was forced to kneel, and then got wet.

What? I'm shallow that way.

Seriously though, I thought it was a decent filler ep that kept me entertained but certainly not high on my 'rewatch' list. I liked that everyone was involved (Zelenka! Cute asian Science Girl who finally got a name! Elizabeth and Teyla actually spoke to each other!). Although, why was Elizabeth there? Just for the fun of it? Not that I minded, I like the character but it didn't seem like the sort of thing where she would be necessary.

Very cute 'you're with me--or I'm with you' moment with John, though.

At first I was afraid the ep would be a retread of "Sunday" with Teyla being possessed, but then it went in a different direction, thank goodness. Actually, it kept changing directions, because I thought John would end up being forced to fly the jumper for the queen, then it became a 'disarm the bomb' plot, and all those changes probably helped with the ep because it kept me from dwelling on things like jeeze, is that the best they could do when it came to tying up the wraith queen? I would have had her wrapped with sixteen rolls of duct tape, then tied with rope and then chained to the damn table. And the glaringly obvious redshirts--could it have been any more predictable?

Although I so sympathize with Rodney on the name thing. I'm terrible with names. It's very embarrassing.

When Teyla was trying to pull information from her mind, it seemed to me like distracting the queen would have been a good idea, kick her or something to mess up her concentration. That's what I would have done.

And why oh why did Ronon simply leave Teyla there with the queen when she told him to?

And to back up a bit, why didn't Rodney believe Teyla? The most paranoid and cautious man that ever lived? I guess he was excited and wanted to play with his big new toy.

But, weak plot points aside, I did enjoy many aspects of it. Not as many character moments as I would have liked, but John talking about The Abyss was fun, because yeah John, you are a dork, but a really cute one and that's why Rodney loves you so. And I laughed out loud when John said "I hate queens." Just something about JF's delivery. Personally, I love evil wraith queens. It made me happy to see one again. It also made me happy that Rodney shot her in the end, and then John did, too. Shades of "The Defiant One". Very cute moment with them afterward.

And finally, Rodney was as cute as can be in the final scene, all excited about the drilling station again. I love that his love of science and the thrill of discovery jumps back in full swing after all the danger is gone. John seemed to love it, too, with his little 'yup, that's my boyfriend' style comment. It was a nice Rodney moment--not snarky or fearful or complaining Rodney, but Rodney the Scientist.

Oh, one last thing--Carson who? I know, this is Stargate, but still. ::rolls eyes::

Hee, love the way you write recaps. You always pick the defining moments. :)

I'll have to rewatch it as I was in a hurry this morning. There certainly were moments that I loved and John on his knees was one of them! God, those Wraith Queens have very weird kinks.

I did notice a lot of inconsistencies with the wraith in SGA. This one had just fed on 2 people and still couldn't break out of those pathetic bonds? But hey, love watching Rodney fire the P90. It's hot and I think John thought so too!

I just like the idea of a whole team of scientists going down to explore this station.

And it never hurts to wear those black uniforms :)

yup...elizabeth had no business there...i mean, it's bad enough that they always have sheppard *and* mckay everywhere, but that at least makes sense...losing their entire command structure in case something should happen? stupid!

i'll just go rewatch sheppard on his knees :D

And Rodney shooting the hell out of the Wraith Queen was SO HOT. You ever notice his aim is always good when he's defending John and always shitty when he's not?

You hit one my one pet peeve with this episode, why was Elizabeth there. Also, who was in charge at Atlantis? But the John and Rodney moments were pure bliss.

Oh yeah. *g* The writers must realize what a popular image that is.

As for the wraith having strength, supposedly they had the wraith drugged (gosh, those medical supplies on the drilling platform lasted a long time!), too, but I agree, those bonds looked pretty damn flimsy! Hell, I could have broken out of them.

Okay, maybe not. But...wraith!!

Oooh, yes, good point! He's very good when it comes to defending John.

And he's hot like a hot hot hot thing when he does it, too.

I'm pretty sure John was turned on by it. He was grumpy just to cover it up.

Bob the cafeteria guy was in charge. *g* Seriously, they had everyone there, didn't they? Except Lorne. I wish Lorne could have been there, actually.

John had a massive 80s crush on Michael Biehn too. He first perved over him in The Terminator, and that continued to The Abyss, where Biehn played the wacko guy.

The ep had some good points (yes, John falling to his knees was one of them! Zelenka was another!) but overall, the plot stuff sucked, I thought. Yep, the red shirt guys were too obviously red shirts. Yep, Elizabeth had no point in being there. Yep, Ronon should never have left Teyla alone with the queen. And most importantly, if the damned queen could stand up through Rodney's P90 burst, I severely doubt John's few shots from his handgun killed her. C'mon, guys, self-healing Wraith, remember?? I was talking out loud to the computer for how stupid it was to leave her there with a fully-powered Cruiser and just walk away. Damn! (I always wonder why they haven't begun to shoot the Wraith in the head, since they seem to heal all their other wounds, but I guess that's another plot thing that we need for exciting episodes....)

So, overall, everyone looked great, John was forced to kneel, and the plotline sucked. :) IMHO, of course....

Am I the only one who thought Ronon leaving Teyla with the Wraith Queen was part of the plan to feed her misinformation so that she would turn off the auto-destruct?

Agree with all the rest, though, especially the obvious redshirts and the cuteness level. Rodney got in some good zingers, and John looked good wet. I generally don't ask more from an episode than that. ;)

Actually, the part when John was forced to kneel that was totally hot. Wraith Queens, as disgusting as they are, are cool bitches, have to give them that. Strong, virus resistant, make their men kneel in a heart beat...

Elizabeth presence was absolutely unnecessary, but I liked that she was immediately up for research at the end. I kind of think that she goes on the missions bc she, sometimes thankfully due to the lack of problems, is a little bit bored and joins her SGA1 team.

I'm pretty sure John was turned on by it. He was grumpy just to cover it up.

It's their version of foreplay. Rodney comes up with a plan to save the day, shoots the Wraith (probably using John's P90) and all John wants to do is push him up against the organic matter of the Cruiser wall. So he has to grump about why Rodney didn't want to be the bait *g*

I also loved the last scene, since John's the one answering, so naturally, of course, that, yep, Rodney's serious and going to go play scientist now.

Great recap :)

I thought of you when John had to get on his knees. *g* As you've said before, there's just no bad there.

I also laughed outloud when John said he hated queens. *g*

I love the little group nap at the end. It firmly cements my theory that Elizabeth feels like she's actually in charge of a day care a lot of the time. *g*

It was definitely foreplay.

And then Rodney pushed John away because "Eeew, no way are we doing it on a wraith ship, they're just too gross with the slime and all" and John was sulky for the rest of the trip.

Plus in that last scene, it's cute that they ask John if Rodney's always like that, because John's the expert on all things Rodney. John almost said, " yeah, sometimes even after sex he'll pop out of bed and run down to the lab. It's a little insulting."

I thought it was a decent plot with weak execution. I love those Wraith queens. And it occurs to me now that Ronon leaving Teyla in there with here was all part of the plan. Or else they would never have let the queen leave the station.

But yeah, on the death of the queen--John, you can really tell she's dead by just glancing down at her? Come on! That was a definite weak moment. ::rolls eyes::

Wraith Queens are totally cool. And obviously have very good taste, since they always seem to go after John. *g*

I totally buy that Elizabeth came along because she wanted to play. I suppose it would have been considered a safe mission. At least compared to the other stuff they do.

Yeah, I wasn't really expecting Rodney to be shown still grieving for Carson because that would, of course, require continuity which the Stargate writers in general seem to be in short supply of.

Although, why was Elizabeth there?

Dude, I asked myself that very question at the very first scene! Why was she there? Ugh, first we had Carson shoved into missions willy-nilly, and now Elizabeth.

The episode was okay, but, yeah, it goes into the same pile as Irresistible and Irresponsible. Episodes I probably will only rewatch after I've completely forgotten everything about them - which means probably next year. *g*

I did think the episode was pretty heavy fem-slash though.

John on his knees sort of takes me to my happy place..almost as much as all the different black shirts they've put him in this season.

**and I'm sorry for the late comment, I didn't even really get the chance to comment on the epi in my LJ..work is CRAZY right now.

They had to get Ronon out of there so that Teyla could do her thing. If the wraith queen thought that taking over Teyla would just get her shot by Ronon, instead of using Teyla to free her, she would have just killed Teyla with her mind, as she threatened to.

It seemed weird to me at first too, because if Elizabeth had wanted Ronon she could have just radioed for him, so I think that was a tip off that it was a set up.

The Queen was scary! I was watching on my ipod working out at the gym and when she showed up to Gradon, I think I screamed. It was embarrassing...

I'm hoping we get some acknowledgment of Carson's death in the next ep, or else that would really suck. But still they could have mentioned it in passing here.

I'll probably watch this one again when it shows up on Scifi, but that will probably be it. I haven't even capped the ep yet. Just not really inspired to so. (Plus, I've had enough of dark shadowy hallways, thank you very much!!)

Nice recap. A note on the Carson thing, not that the stargate-verse is generally fantastic with the continuity, but I think Submersion was originally supposed to air before Sunday, so that may explain at least part of it. And also why Paul McGillion was still in the credits.
